Because there are so many cell phone companies out there, there is a lot of competition, which translates to us getting great cell phone deals from wireless carriers. With the purchase of T-Mobile by AT&T; one major competitor will be eliminated.

So I wonder, do you think we will see a price hike from AT&T; or will prices remain the same?

I thinks they should stop the purchase. It's a monopoly.

I know. The only reason for the deals is to increase sales.

Normally, less competition means higher prices. So get ready to open the wallet wider.

I think initially, prices will hold the line. After all, you have to be subtle when it comes to turning the KNIFE in the backs of consumers. But eventually as the competition falls by the wayside the prices will inevitably tick upwards as the service goes down. It's the american way....unfortunately!

Yet some want to put our futures in the hand of big corporations. Who knows what they will do once they have total power.

It's not going to mean better prices for consumers. That's not why mergers happen. Mergers happen to create higher profits for shareholders, increase in equity value for the winners in the takeover, recouping of losses for the company taken over, and golden parachutes for executives. Generally speaking, if anything trickles down to consumers, it will not be something beneficial.

I agree. Nothing good ever trickles down from the top.

"Getting great cell phone deals" - Ok, is the author SERIOUS?

I pay more now for phone service than I have in my ENTIRE life. Including during the dinosaur days when households actually HAD landlines in their home and when long distance wasn't "free" or included in the plan.

Give me a break...at the very least, prices will not change - but one step closer to a monopoly and one step closer to more $$$ in THEIR pockets. Call me jaded. It's all good.

Well some of them offered some great prices on cell phone devices. Although, I agree, the monthly plans are expensive. Monopoly certainly will not help.

That's true...but if you are with AT&T, you only get those "great prices" after you've had a contract with them for 2 years. And then, you upgrade to a device that requires an extra 30 bucks per month just to be able to connect to the internet.... Let's not even talk about texting plans. But still, I am willing to go the 2 years to get a free $400 phone.
