I just got this cute little collar with a bell on it and my mom seems to think it's going to make her go deaf. She said when we got our first cat that the Humane Society told her that but I've never heard of that happening and I've looked all over the Internet and everything and I can't find anything saying that it makes them go deaf.I have however seen alot of stuff saying about putting a bell on and already deaf cat but nothing that says it actually causes them to go deaf.Does anyone know if this is true and I don't want my cat to go deaf :/

Prolonged exposure to loud noise could cause hearing loss but a bell does not make nearly enough (loud) noise to cause deafness.

I've never heard of that. Our family has always had cats and as kittens, they always get a collar with a bell ... it's never had any negative side effects from it.

Hmmm, interesting, never heard of such a thing. The cat in our home has worn a bell since he was little and still has his hearing.

Cats enjoy bells, my friend's mom has a bell on her cat's neck because her mom is deaf. It won't make the cat deaf..

All the cats I've ever had (so, 5 all up) have worn bells on their collars 24/7 and they never went deaf. I consider myself something of a cat enthusiast (read: crazy cat lady in the making) and I've NEVER heard this.

You don't have anything to be concerned about but if you won't take my word for it give your vet a call.

She won't be able to catch mice and such, since they will hear her coming. That's it.
Well maybe they'll go deaf if you give them a cow bell.

It shouldn't, unless you have a very fragile cat. If it could, so would other noises like traffic, and speech.
Unless you're strapped a belltower to it...

I've done no research on the matter, but if a bell could, so would a TV, or nearby traffic. (assuming it's just going by volume)
