Why would a "spiritual" person resort to using a gun when you are quoting the Bible they are supposed to be following?

Suppose we are having a civilized discussion about why people are not supposed to seek revenge on here (Sodahead).
And the own writings in their spiritual books is showing that some people are not following the spiritual ways they claim to follow.
But we are doing it in a nice a civil way so that everyone can learn.
And suppose some of the folks where you live know you are on here.
And they have to harass or shoot at you because they are being shown that they can't follow their spiritual ways if they are acting like they are acting.
So instead of joining the discussion on here and learning, they vandalize your property and/ or shoot guns when you are outside.

If they are going to these local churches around here and not learning any better than that, why go?

So here's the major question:

Why would a person say they love God and hate their neighbor that much that they can't even have a discussion without guns ?

1 John 4

20If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. (When John says brother he is not talking about just your family)

Mark 12:30-31

New International Version (NIV)

30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a]31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] There is no commandment greater than these.”

On the same note.. Why do Churches have lightening rods on the roof? and why do they have Fire Insurance?? One would think that their faith in their GOD would be enough to protect them...

Also this Jesus dude did a good job of teaching hate:

If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple.Luke 14:26

Most people use religion only when it benefits them.....

By the way I have a lot of respect for you. So don't take this negatively.
Took the verse out of context. He was using hyperbole to say you should love God the most in your life. But thanks for your answer.
    John 13:34-35
    New International Version (NIV)
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

    Mark 12:31
    New International Version (©1984)
The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

There is much more about love in there. :-)

All that is where I have a problem with scripture,, one place tells you to hate, another tells you to love.,, another tells you to kill and another tells you not to..

However most religious people I have found over the years are only religious in appearance only. And as in the past they would use violence to get their point across,, Hell they used to murder people that wouldnt convert to their way of thinking.....Some would probably still be doing it if it wasnt made against the law....

Yeah I know. I am Native American. When the Spanish Missionaries came they baptized Natives then killed them en-mass. I think it is very confusing in places. But what I know is it helped me to have a really good guy named Dr. Dale B. to explain it all to me when they were using hyperbole and when they were serious.
I think even before I was converted I liked the Jesus guy's bent toward loving and helping folks. Now the Old Testament, that is very violent. I just sorta take that as history. But when Jesus came he said you can't love God and hate people. ( I know about the hyperbole example you gave) IF you'd like to talk to my friend Dale, I can give you his email privately. If not that's okay. He is very nice and not nasty. Cuz he put up with me when I was pretty hostile towards Christians. LOL
    Great talkin' to ya.

I have a deep religious history,, even went to the Lousiville Baptist Seminary.. became a preacher when I was young.. but the deeper I dug, the smaller the hole became.. Ever wonder why so many preachers are EX Preachers? It is because of their studies and uncovering all the falsehoods, and even after a while you lose your Faith in Manhood by dealing with all the hypocrites.. Ever since I cleared my mind of the superstitions my life has been much more of a pleasure. I have become more of "One with life" and shed the crutches ......There are some good things in the Bible about life and how one should conduct themselves,, I just dont believe I need a Diety or some ancient men to give me morals,, those should be inherant in a person...

Those things should be there. But some people have to learn them from some place. I studied for the ministry also at Kings College. But I was miraculously healed form something I was dying from without any doctors involved. So I have kinda of different view. But know that I respect you and yours.

Because if we always did the right thing, then we wouldnt need spiritual guidance. Sometimes the worst of ourselves gets the best of us.

And that is why we have spiritual brothers and sisters to remind us of who we are in the Spirit. And instead of shooting at us who remind them. Might we not both learn if we are having positive dialogue like you and I?

That would be best yes, but we cannot judge the other without knowing what is in their heart, one mistake, two mistakes does not make the man/woman. And sometimes people are going through things that we cant see or dont know about, things that would break even the strongest person, maybe their actions are a result of their trials instead of a result of what kind of person they are. Instead of condemning that person, I would pray for them.

There is a difference between judging and warning. You are not judging when you warn a person that they are headed in the wrong direction. The Bible in fact tells that that is what we are required to do. Hebrews 3:13 New International Version (©1984)
    New Living Translation (©2007)
You must warn each other every day, while it is still "today," so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.
    Warning is not judging.

Do you have a link to that verse because I think that verse actually says encourage each other.

    http://www.biblegateway.com/p...

I agree with you about warning and judging but there is a very thin line between those two and peoples words of warning often come off sounding like judgement.

Regardless, in the situation you mentioned in the original post, its obvious that person is not thinking clearly and it would be best to avoid them if possible. Its not about how spiritual they are or are not, its went past that the minute they threatened violence over nothing but words.

Simply avoiding people does not work with some. Jesus warned the Pharisees and Saducees. And they took it all wrong. But he told them that they would have no excuse before God. And your Talking the NIV version which is good sometimes. And many times not in its translation.

The translation I got was from the New Living Translation and many others.
The old KJV version says exhort

    v. ex·hort·ed, ex·hort·ing, ex·horts. v.tr. To urge by strong, often stirring argument, admonition, advice, or appeal: exhorted the troops to hold the line. v.intr.

What some translations call "encourage" is actually toning it down from ancient Greek. The word is parakaeo in Greek. It means to plead with, encourage strongly, appeal to, urge, a type of warning to help someone.

In all this I put here if you find any judgment, that might be your own interpretation. If people don't get warned or exhorted they might go off a cliff.
People can pray and that is wonderful. We do that also. But there is a time and place to exhort. And God will tell me and you when that time is. The time is short for these folks because bad things are happening to many of them. As a caring person, it is time for me to warn them before more happens to them.

You are not taking into consideration the total picture because you do not know it. And if you do I would say to you do you live here? If you do live here. Then who are you?

Dont take my words as argumentative because they are not, I am trying to understand the situation from your point of view which requires discussion. As for "living here" where is here?

Then Im confused, how is where you live relevant? Christians should act the same regardless of where we live.

Yes Christians should act the same everywhere. D'oh
Since you obviously disagree about how Christians "should act" Biblically, I am not going to carry this conversation on any further.
I don't know who taught you just praying was all you could do. But they are dead wrong. You are punching the same bag even after I shown you that God DOES say we can tell people when they are going in the wrong direction. Yes they can just pray. But you can't tell me not to warn people. And so it will go on endlessly. That ma'am is called an endless loop. You are determined to say that even the Bible verses are wrong. So let's just agree to disagree cuz I am getting tired of this going on and on. K?

To smite the Philistines? Doesn't it also say in the bible something about "all fall short of the glory of God"? I'm not judging, condemning nor condoning anyone here.

Yeah it does say all fall short of the glory of God. But it also says (not for those trying and failing. This is for those who won't even try to do the right thing.) That they are liars if they say they love God and hate others.

I get that. I guess my point is that the bible makes references to "fighting on the side of righteousness.". I guess some confuse that with seeking revenge.

Yeah I understand that many of these folks misinterpret scripture. And that is why we are having this discussion peacefully, to help folks get a better understanding of what it means to be a spiritual person.
But they really need to know that they can't fight on the side of righteousness in a spiritual discussion with a gun.
A large percentage of the Bible is talking about spiritual warfare, not physical.
And even in physical warfare it was only when God called them to it.
Jesus on the other hand made no physical war on anyone. His was all spiritual.
    2 Corinthians 10:4
    American King James Version
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
