The old are the people who teach common sense and balance. Kids always want to grab the reins and gallop wildly into the future. I wanted to too, but then I learned that you can go a lot further at a walk or a trot than you can expending your energy on that crazy (albeit fun) gallop.
Not all old folks just the ones that are still prejudiced. My parents generation disliked the older generations due to their prejudice against other races, my generation dislikes the older generations due to their prejudice against other sexual orientations. Pretty similiar if you ask me.
I think it is genetic, going back a few thousand years.
Everyone over 30 can't be trusted!
