Why should we trust God?

matthew.kennedy.31586 2012/08/17 01:33:27
We have to trust that what we are experiencing is true. And that even if it IS true - that this GOD is actually true Himself!

"He" doesn't ever talk... He left a book (if you're a Christian) from thousands of years ago - that we're just supposed to believe. God shows Himself all the time in that book (Pillar of fire, cloud, amazing miracles - not invisible ones like curing cancer, etc...)

In fact, nothing that happens to people with regards to their various gods is anything that cannot be explained by natural phenomena...

And if someone says (....and they all say) that this GOD is in their heart - closer than REAL people, etc... That this GOD makes them feel good, etc... How do they know that this GOD is not just drugging them... altering their reality just so HE can add more slaves to HIS army - or draw energy from their worship? - the Christian GOD for example, tells his followers that in Heaven, they will not cry anymore... they'll be blissfully happy - while those who didn't make it are burning for eternity in Hell...

Christians will be happy - while non-Christians will be burning in Hell... That really sounds rather ugly, btw...

What if there's really no God at all? I mean, every religion that I can think of hangs on the vision of some hearsay historical figure. We are literally having to trust that some dead guy didn't lie.

You!

I believe in God, for reasons known only to myself. I've been in several car accidents where I should have died, but didn't. Exit point? Maybe. I've lost my son, my father, my mother, my three youngest brothers and scores of aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends. I believe I'll see them again, not just because the thought keeps me going, because I truly believe it. Do I believe they are in heaven? Maybe. I believe they are in a better place than here. Some were religious all their lives, some drank, smoked and had sex with anything that moved. Do they deserve to go to heaven? I don't know. That's not my call. I believe that God is more real to some people than to others, and they shouldn't be shunned for their beliefs. I'm not even going to comment about the drugging, drawing energy or slave-making. It's just not in me. I think that some are closer to their God, some are not. It's not something to be made fun of nor mocked. If you don't choose to believe, don't. It's as simple as that. But please, don't victimize people that do.

But those people vote - and ruin the lives of others.

Muslims want to kill those who do not believe in their God... Mormons fight politically to keep people who are in love from getting married... Christians want women to stay in the kitchen.. etc. etc...

I think some of them need to be victimized.

There were A LOT of generalizations in that post.

Yup - you have to be general when speaking of gods and their followers.

No, because there are so many exceptions. Enough to say that maybe it's the extremists that ARE the exceptions. Your accusations are ridiculous. Not all Muslims kill those who are not Muslim and I don't even know where the Christians wanting women to stay in the kitchen thing came from.

I can give you several scriptures that puts women in their place...

ANYONE with a book from 'GOD" is merely one revival away from terrorist activity.

I understand that but the point is that, while those scriptures exist, most theists don't adhere to them. That's why it's unfair generalizing when the majority of them don't have that mentality.

Which proves my point - mankind is MORE moral without GOD.

Since the majority of people are luke-warm concerning their religion - the GODS of those religions are at worst, evil - or at best, inconsequential.

It is honorable, honest and courageous to not believe in this poppycock... I raise my cup to these noble heroes across the years and miles.

While the history of the alleged "Christian Martyrdom" is largely lore and myth - the fact is that the death threats come quickly from Theists (particularly Muslims and Christians) when someone dares question their institution.

On those points, yes, I'm in agreement. Your original post seemed a bit offensive, that's all. And not to me personally, because I'm agnostic but the generalization was a bit extreme, I thought.

Where do you get your facts, if indeed they are facts? My husband and I are Christian and I work. I also love to cook for my family. Why should anyone be needlessly victimized?

Belief in pretend things is dangerous.

Religious belief should be challenged and shunned.

How are you so sure that it's pretend? I've never shoved my beliefs in anyone's face, I've kept it to myself and within my family. There's a lot of things that I believe in, God is one of them. If you want to shun it, that's all right with me. Why make such an issue of it?

Some people are NOT trusting in the fairy tale at all and prefer to invest in reality than fiction.

They are not tempted by the carrot on a stick for the fantasy of eternal of life.
They are living in the here and now and chose a life that is self directed full of the joys of mother earth rather than that of grovelling to a maniacal god that cannot be trusted.

"We are literally having to trust that some dead guy didn't lie."

... and we don't usually do that, do we? instead, we usually verify the accuracy of another's report before we go putting all of our chips on what the other person says ...

and yet, for some reason, when "G-d" enters the picture, all common sense, logic, reason, practical experience, knowledge and wisdom is dumped right down the toilet ...

    pretty strange, wouldn't you say?
