Why? Just...why??

Why do most Christians feel the need to tell me I am wrong, or I don't know what I believe in since I am only 16? I had this one person tell me once I have something devastating happen to me I will need Gods love and grace to help me.. Well guess what.. That has happened already, and your God wasn't there for me. Nyx was, Selene was, Gaea was, Eros and Aphrodite was. They all were there for me, and they all helped me. I begged God to help me, to make things better. I asked my Gods and Goddesses once, and they helped me. I might be 16, but I know what I am doing, and I know what is best for me. I don't need your stupid, pathetic preaching. Your words are worthless. I have read your bible, I have heard your hellfire and brimstone sermons. All of it is a joke and horrible. Hell was created to scare people into becoming Christian. Hell and heaven do not exist, so stop trying to convert me! My Gods and Goddesses love me. Every single one of them. Your God loves no one except for rapists and murderers. Want to see what I mean?

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

What does the Bible say about beating slaves? It says you can beat both male and female slaves with a rod so hard that as long as they don't die right away you are cleared of any wrong doing.
When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

Death to the Rape Victim (Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.

Rape of Female Captives (Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB)"When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion."

Lo, a day shall come for the Lord when the spoils shall be divided in your midst. And I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle: the city shall be taken, houses plundered, women ravished; half of the city shall go into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be removed from the city. (Zechariah 14:1-2 NAB)

Murder, rape and pillage of the Midianites (Numbers 31:7-18 NLT)
They attacked Midian just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed all the men. All five of the Midianite kings – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – died in the battle. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. Then the Israelite army captured the Midianite women and children and seized their cattle and flocks and all their wealth as plunder. They burned all the towns and villages where the Midianites had lived. After they had gathered the plunder and captives, both people and animals, they brought them all to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the whole community of Israel, which was camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho.

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. "Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded. "These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves.

Exodus 21:3-4 Says that if a male slave is given a wife by his master (regardless of how long they are wed, how much they love each other or if they have kids) he can not leave servanthood with his wife or children. The woman and children are merely property of the master and their personal happiness or sanctity of family doesn’t matter.

Exodus 21:7 God not only sanctions selling ones daughter into slavery, but he also gives out laws on how it should be done.

Exodus 21:10 God ordains men taking several wives and even sets up laws as to how multiple wives should be handled.

Genesis 38:16-24 Tells a very interesting story of a man named Judah whom lived with his widowed daughter in law. His daughter in law was grieving and wearing the veils of mourning which Judah (a rather stupid man) mistook for the clothing of a prostitute. He ended up impregnating his daughter in law and she left the city. On a later date Judah sees the young woman again and demanded she be burned for being a prostitute (I like how only the woman is punished when THEY BOTH engaged in the sexual act). It wasn’t until Judah recognized the woman as his daughter in law and she was with his child, that he decided not to kill her. Basically, Judah can commit incest, use a prostitute (in his mistaken perception), and impregnate a MUCH younger woman, yet he thinks she is the one deserving of death

Genesis 19:8 Tells of a man named Lot who offers his daughters to a crowd of would be angel rapers. Later, Lot impregnates his own daughters after God kills his wife for simply looking back at the remains of her city

Leviticus 15:19-30 Explains that a woman having her menstruation must be avoided to the point of not even touching what she has touched. It is quite curious that women are punished for simply having a biological function that “God” claims to have created. What is so just about vilifying what you created?

Leviticus 18:19 Goes onto say that even LOOKING at a menstruating woman is wrong.

Leviticus 19:20 Says that if a man has sex with a slave or betrothed woman he must then “scourge” her. Scourging is a term for a severe flogging or whipping. I find it quite curious that the woman shall be punished to the point of a beating for such an occurrence, yet the man gets to go free for the deed

Numbers 31: 14-18 Moses tells his men to kill all the males, non-virginal women, elderly and children of the Midianite tribe. Of course, the virgin women are kept for raping. If you read later down in the scripture God states that the Jews can not even marry a Midianite woman (with exception to Moses). Hence these women who were captured were repeatedly raped and impregnated and they weren’t even allowed a marital status in which to protect them.

Deuteronomy 20:13-15 Kill all the men and boys in the cities that God “delivers into your hands,” but keep the women for raping.

Deuteronomy 21:11-14 If you see a pretty woman among the captives then just take her home and “go in unto her.”

Deuteronomy 22:5 Women that wear men’s clothing are an “abomination unto the Lord.”

Deuteronomy 22:13-22 Women, be sure to keep the tokens of your virginity. Otherwise the men of your city may stone you to death. This does not apply to men though, of course. What is interesting to note here is the actual wording, it says : “that if a man hateth his wife he may say she did not have the tokens of her virginity”. Since there is no way a woman can truly prove she had a hymen upon marriage the word rests on the husband and she can be disposed of simply when he tires of her.

Deuteronomy 22:23-24 is one of the most cruel and sexist passages of the Torah. It says that women who are raped and fail to “cry out loud” in a populated area are most likely enjoying the attack should be killed.

I don't need your hate, I don't need your lies. So leave me alone. I have found peace, and I wish the same to you. Blessed Be.
You!

Because, most Christians are freaking hypocrites. They preach acceptance but shun anyone who doesn't believe. I, however, am not most Christians. I totally respect your view of divinity. I don't believe God will condemn anyone to Hell because they believe something different from me. In fact, I don't believe in Hell. Everyone is permitted their own views. If you ask me, all religions are correct. That makes me evil in the eyes of other Christians, by I don't care what they think. Everyone is allowed to follow their own version of the Gods, to find their own path to the Truth. Stay strong, and ignore what those idiots say. As long as you are secure in your own beliefs, you're doing nothing wrong.

I am an atheist so I may not be the best person to give advice about religion but it seems to me you have found a religion that fills your spiritual needs so screw what others have to say about it.
    BTW: it doesn't matter if you're 16 or 96.

Most people are set in their ways, whether they be Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim or atheist. They believe their religion is the only right one.
Personally, I believe there are bits of truth in each religion.

Everything you just qouted was in the Old Testament if you look at the New Testament you will see in the Gospels that Jesus died on the cross so we could be forgiven of our sins. im a christian and i was raised in church and you want to know what i admire you. You believe in your Gods and Godesses and you have faith in them and i respect you for that because i know alot of people who go to church who arent so sure if they believe in Jesus, but hey you believe in what you believe and i believe in Jesus Christ, if youre happy and content in youre beliefs then i am not going to condem you to "Hell" because nobody has a right to do that not even i do because thats hypocritical, youre not hurting me and im not hurting you, nobody can force you to convert if you dont want to, so as a human being im glad you have found peace and may you live a happy life :)

Thank you. :) I respect people like you a lot. But if I may, would you mind explaining the first thing you said about the Old Testament and the New Testament? I know some places where it says in the New Testament that even Jesus said the Old Testament should not be forgotten. Or, however it was said lol. I'm not meaning to start a fight or anything, I am just curious. :)

haha neither am i but um No its fine, you know in the torah there is like over 600 testamnets because the people were asking god to make more laws, so thats exactly what he did and the people said they wanted a king so he gave them one, in the old testament there were laws like being put to death for adultry or stealing etc. and also people had to make an animal sacrafice to God for whatever reason, well in the New Testament God sent his only son to die for ALL of our sins so we no longer had to die but if we believe in Him we would have everloasting life, After jesus was crucified and came back from the dead we no longer had to keep all of the 600 ridiculous laws and basically only had to follow 10 Which are..
    1. You shall have no other God's before me
    2. You shall not worship false idols
3, You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God

Yeah it really is um for example the whole killing thing, i will admit God did order some people to kill whole cities, i had just read about Jericho in my bible a couple of weeks ago but it describes the cities like Jericho, Sodom & Gomorrah of being very evil places. Like really sick twisted things would take place and God got very angry, because the people he indvidualy created and loved turned their back on him and he was furious. And there are a few other accounts where he did that with Saul but that was because they were in war.

    But God created evil.
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. (Isaiah 45:7, KJV)
Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it? (Amos 3:6, KJV)
Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good? (Lamentations 3:38)

One more thing, you said he will punish those who are doing wrong in his eyes. Well, apparently wrong to him is a woman being raped, not a man raping a woman.

The bible emphatically teaches against immorality in the old and new testaments. In the OT we find the story of sodom and gommorah, this is about sexual deviances, perversions and immorality. Now we know that Rape is a horrible, terrible offense, it is a sin and it is covered under immorality as it pertains to those transgressions that the transgressor will inherit a ticket and life time to hell for.

The common answer here is from the old testament, about the offender being forced to marry the victim, but nothing is mentioned about the woman in the old testament who was raped and was found to have been raped and her offender punished. Atheist tend to leave that out.

Now in Sodom, they were raping young males and God found this highly wrong and says so right there, but people are so quick to try to find something that they think they can use, but it works to the left when it is not rightly divided or studied deeper.

Think of Tamar, what happened when her evil brother absolom raped her in the OT? They never mention that either and God saw that as an abomination, a perversion and wrong. We know what his punishment for it was, it was death.

For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. Exodus 34:28
Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant--the Ten Commandments.

You Die if you do not drink water after 7 days you die of hunger after 30 days
    so that is impossible

But why does it take moses and GOD Fourty Days to write the ten commandments

why do they write at the same speed
    unless its because
GOD never wrote the ten commandments
Moses did and tried to be god to his people

    Moses Receives the 10 Commandments

During the time of testing in this wilderness experience, the first thing God wanted to see was whether or not His people would keep His laws and commandments. So God then proceeds to lay out all of the laws that He wants the Israelites to abide by.
In the third month after being delivered from Egypt, God tells Moses that He will literally come down Himself onto Mount Sinai in the presence of all of His people.
When God comes down, the Bible says that Mount Sinai is completely enveloped in smoke. There were thunderings, lightnings, thick smoke, and the entire mountain “quaked greatly.”
God then descends upon Mount Sinai “in fire.” The smoke was like the smoke of a furnace the way it was ascending off of the mountain. Just imagine such an event – that God the Father Himself is descending from His throne in heaven to visit these people with His manifest presence!
God only calls Moses to come to the top of the mountain to meet and talk with Him. No one else was allowed to go up. God then proceeds to tell Moses what the basic 10 commandments are going to be. In addition to the 10 commandments were other specific laws and ways that He wanted the children of Israel to abide by. Moses then comes back down to deliver all of this to the Israelites.

Shortly after this first event, God then calls Moses back to the mountaintop once again. Moses stays on the top of the mountaintop this time with God for forty days and forty nights. The Bible says that the sight of the Lord at the top of the mountaintop was like a “consuming fire.”
In this second meeting with God, God gives Moses specific instructions on building a tabernacle where God’s manifest presence can dwell with the Israelites out in the wilderness for the 40 years they were going to have to stay out there. It was during this second meeting that God gives Moses the 10 commandments written on a stone tablet!
He was given two tablets and the tablets had writings on both sides. All of the writing on the tablets was literally the handwriting of God Himself – literally engraved right on these stone tablets.
Again, just imagine this entire scene. This one man, Moses, is allowed to meet and talk with God direct for 40 days and 40 nights and then to top it all off, receives two tablets of stone with God’s personal handwriting engraved on these two stone tablets!
While all of this is going on between God and Moses for the 40 days, the most unbelievable thing starts to happen at the bottom of this mountain. The Israelites then start to get impatient when they see Moses is delayed in coming back down from the mountaintop. They start murmuring and complaining, saying they do not know what has become of Moses.
At this point, they start to make a golden calf in which to worship. God, seeing this from the mountaintop, becomes furious! God then calls these people a stiff-necked people and threatens to consume them. God then tells Moses that He will make him a great nation, but that He is going to kill the rest of the Israelites who are worshiping this false idol.
At this point, Moses then proceeds to stand in the gap for his people and argues with God not to kill and consume them. The Bible says that the Lord then relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people.
After Moses convinces God not to consume His own people, he then comes back down from the mountain to see what they have been up to. When he sees the golden calf they had made to worship and they were all singing and dancing around it, he becomes furious!
At this point, Moses takes the two tablets of stone that God had just given him, and throws them down at the foot of the mountain breaking both of these tablets into pieces! He then proceeds to take the calf which they had just made, burns it, grinds it down into a powder, scatters it into the water and then makes the Israelites drink it! Talk about the full wrath of God in manifestation!
After demolishing this golden calf, Moses then appears before all of the people and tells them to choose which side they are going to stand on – the Lord’s side or their own side. After each man takes the side they wanted to be on, Moses then gives the orders to have all the people who did not choose God to be killed right there on the spot. The Bible says that 3000 men were killed that day due to their rebellion against God Almighty Himself.
Moses then goes back up to Mount Sinai, and God once more gives him 2 more tablets of stone to replace the ones that he had just broken. However, in this meeting with God, something really awesome happens!
    2. Moses is Allowed to See the Manifest Presence of God

In this next meeting with God, God tells Moses that He is going to literally show Himself to Moses. However, God tells Moses:
“You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” (Exodus 33:20)
God then tells Moses to stand in the cleft of a rock. He will then proceed to pass by Moses, but only showing Moses His back, not His face. Here are the exact words from God Himself:
“Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” (Exodus 33:21-23)
This has to be the topper experience for Moses. With everything that he has just witnessed – with God releasing His people from Egypt with incredible displays of supernatural power, being able to talk direct with God through a burning bush, being able to talk direct to God through fire and smoke up on Mount Sinai, and then to top it all off, God actually allows Moses to see His manifest presence from His backside. It just can’t get any better than this. And this one man experiences all of this in one lifetime!
The Bible then gives Moses what I feel may be the highest compliment that God could ever give to anyone. The Bible says:
“So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.” (Exodus 33:11)
The #1 thing that God wants from each of us is a close, intimate, personal relationship. Moses obviously accomplished all of this in his lifetime. He may have initially been afraid to deliver God’s people from Egypt when God first called him out, but he had no fear when the time came to meet God face-to-face and talk directly with Him. The Bible says that the rest of the Israelites were too afraid of God when He initially manifested His presence up on Mount Sinai.
After Moses has this incredible direct encounter with God Himself, the Bible says that when he came back down off the mountain – that the skin of his face shone. The people were afraid to come near him due to the bright glow that was coming off his face after being in the manifest presence of the Lord! Moses then had to wear a veil over his face for a while to help hide the glow so as not to overwhelm the rest of his people.
    3. The Tabernacle

The other amazing thing that occurred during the Israelites 40 year journey in the wilderness was the building of a tabernacle that would hold the manifest presence of God Himself in it. God gave Moses specific instructions as to how He wanted this tabernacle built.
After the tabernacle was built, the Bible says that a cloud covered the tabernacle during the day and the appearance of fire covered it at night! God would thus personally lead the Israelites on this 40 year journey by the “cloud and the fire.”
Whenever the cloud would lift up off the tabernacle, the Israelites would follow it to wherever it would settle. As long as the cloud stayed on the tabernacle, the Israelites would stay right where they were camped. Once the cloud would lift off the tabernacle, they would then once again follow it to wherever it would settle. God’s manifest presence was thus directly guiding them on this wilderness journey.
    4. The Spies Come Back With a Bad Report

Near the beginning of the 40-year journey through the wilderness at about the two and half year mark, God brings the children of Israel up to the borders of the Promised Land – the land of Canaan. The Israelites send 12 spies into this land to check it out before they will enter in. They then make their last and final fatal mistake before God the Father.
Ten of the twelve spies come back with a bad report. They tell the rest of the Israelites that the people who dwell in this land are strong, the cities are well fortified and large, and that they will not be able to overcome these people because they are stronger and larger in stature than the Israelites were themselves.
Giants and strongholds thus kept the Israelites from believing that God could overcome these human obstacles for them. After hearing this bad and negative report, Caleb speaks out and says:
“Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30)
During their journey through the wilderness, the Israelites were constantly complaining about anything and everything. Not enough food, not enough water, too long of a time in the wilderness, etc. Finally, when God was just about ready to reward them, they make their last and final mistake of not believing in Him and that He could overcome the giants and strongholds they had seen in this land.
When God hears this bad report from the 10 spies, He says that is going to be it. Here is the direct word from God Himself:
“… because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, they certainly shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it. But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.” (Numbers 14:22-24)
God then goes on to further state:
“Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, because they have not wholly followed Me.” (Numbers 32:11)
Joshua and Caleb were thus the ones to lead this younger generation under 20 years old into the Promised Land, and they were successful in conquering and overcoming all of the giants and strongholds that the older generation initially saw. The rest of the Israelites 20 years and older all died out in the wilderness over the next 40 years due to their lack of faith and belief in God!
Imagine these people saw God deliver them from the Egyptians by throwing 10 powerful plagues against the Pharaoh. They then see God literally part the Red Sea. They see God’s manifest presence several times up on Mount Sinai. They see God give Moses 10 commandments miraculously manifested on two stone tablets. And yet, they still could not believe that God could overcome and conquer the giants and strongholds they saw in the Promised Land.
No wonder God blew His cork and washed His hands of them and left them to die and rot out in the desert. The most amazing thing about all of this is that not one man over 20 years old passed this test with the Lord.
Unbelievable! I guess that is why Jesus says blessed are those who have not seen and yet still believe.
    THE DEATH OF MOSES

The saddest part about this man’s story is that he was not allowed to go into the Promised Land with the rest of the younger generation. Moses died on Mount Nebo and was 120 years old when he died.
The Bible says that the reason Moses was not allowed to go into the Promised Land was due to the fact that he “trespassed against God among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah Kadesh.”
What happened in this incident is that God told Moses to speak out to a rock in the presence of the Israelites and that the rock would then bring forth water for the people and their animals. However, for some strange reason, Moses strikes the rock twice with his rod instead of just speaking out to the rock as God had told him to specifically do. He was thus in direct violation of a direct command by God Himsel

Christ's philosophy would never have inspired an honest person to use His teachings to justify war which is exactly what Constantine did in developing the Catholic Church. Consider reading "The Gospel of Thomas", a "lost" scripture or, even better, "The Gospel According to Jesus", an honest interpretation of His teachings. Living ones life according to the teachings of Christ (or the Buddha) is the secret to living blissfully.

Spinoza is the philosopher behind Einstein's statement "My god is the god of Spinoza".

Einstein greatly resented people like Muskoka who tried to define him as an atheist. You are not the fool.

Einstein studied Spinoza and identified with Spinoza both culturally and philosophically. The Encyclopedia Britannica says of him: "Firmly denying atheism, Einstein expressed a belief in 'Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the harmony of what exists.'

Saying "I'm not an atheist," he explained:
"We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is."
