Why is it that whenever a famous person makes it public that they are a virgin, no matter how old they are, the media mocks and vilifies them?

I honestly don't give three fourths of a fuck if people want to have sex or not. Virginity is pretty arbitrary, anyway.... like, what does it even mean? What counts as "sex?" Does it count if it's with someone of your own gender? Does it count if it's with yourself? Virginity means something different in every culture. Like, if you're a Muslim girl, hymen=virginity. Even if you break your hymen by falling off a rock climbing wall like I did when I was 10, you are no longer a virgin. Tough titties. So I guess I lost my virginity to.... the Earth? Gravity? A rock climbing wall?

Anyway, back on track. It seems that whenever a celebrity goes public with their choice to be "virgins" they immediately become a national laughing stock. For example, those talentless Jonas Brothers. Remember those five seconds when they were famous? All anyone did was mock them for their "purity" rings. Or that 29 year old Olympic athlete who is a virgin; never mind the fact that she's an Olympic athlete; the fact that she's never bumped uglies with anyone before is soooo much more fascinating. And then there's Tim Tebow! I still don't believe he's a virgin, but he didn't deserve to be mocked for it.
