Why is it that SEX, Politics, and Religion are viewed as "Taboo" subject matter, when almost every person alive is passionate about one of them, if not all three?
It's precisely because they DO stir such passions that they're inappropriate subject matter for polite company. The idea behind such gatherings is to engage in neutral chit-chat that leads to more complex relationships in which controversial topics might be discussed.
Start in with a religious debate, and you'll be doing everyone at the party a disservice. Nobody knows you well enough to care about your beliefs, in the first place. You'll be known as a troll or worse, and you'll never see another plate of watercress sandwiches again.
That isn't the case in many other countries. There are also a few countries that have way more "taboos" than we do, such as some Arab countries where women aren't supposed to show their faces in public. It depends a lot on the heritage of the country involved. We are a nation started by a lot of folks who were Puritans, and some of those culteral norms have survived over the years.
Wow, you make a damn good point man....lets change that view.
I am going to sit back and read some of the comments when I get back from the Library. I have my opinions about this already, I am just interested to see what comments people will leave here.....Have fun and be respectful!
I really have nothing to say.. I think the 'taboo' stuff in this country ..is lame.
that's about as much of my brain I want to use today.
