Why is it that at 17 I'm ready & willing to take care of myself yet adult liberals need to be taken care of by the tax payers?

I'm an adult liberal in the military, am I "being taken care of by the tax payers", or am I taking care of the tax payers?

.....Stop going off about liberals you're making yourself look as immature as a 17 year old. Though you are 17 so I understand. Oh, and btw my parents are liberals and are against tax payers having to take care of people for example... Going to the doctor without health care.

Actually she made a lot of sense to me...I have an 18 year old daughter who promises me she can take care of herself....and she can.....so I think a 17 year old could be confident that she could take care of herself....what is immature is when you try to make a point from a political party by DIsing the other.....if you have a point...MAKE IT....don't say someone else is immature just because they have an opinion and it doesn't agree with yours....I call that spoiled...and I'm not calling you a liberal...I'm calling it as I see it....

No you don't understand she ALWAYS goes off about liberals all over the site, and it is pretty immature if you ask me. I'm not calling her immature because I don't agree because that'd be immature.

No the mature thing to do is not. Why? You need to learn that people have different views and no matter what you do, you can't change them. Some liberals dislike conservatives views, and some conservatives dislike liberals views. The mature ones accept them, because not everyone is the same. Though I'm guessing your parents didn't teach you to accept the fact that everyone is different. They just taught you to hate.

because everyone is born in different financial circumstances, through no fault of their own, and taxes help to make sure everyone can have access to basic human rights regardless of the state of their bank account, such as education, healthcare, water, heating, housing.
people shouldn't be severely disadvantaged in life just because of bad luck

yes, it is. would you rather see people out on the streets, their children starving on street corners because the economy went down the drain and they lost their job? is that REALLY fair?

so if you can't get food and water yourself... what then? no one's forcing anyone- they're just asking you to share. didn't your mum and dad ever teach you about the virtues of sharing?

well you're perfectly welcome to move elsewhere where the poor are left to die in the street while the wealthier people are not expected to contribute. you can go there if you wish.
apart from they're known as the third world. there's a reason why just about every industrialised country has taxes and helps its poor and needy in some way. it's because it's good for everyone in a society if everyone has their basic needs fulfilled, whatever their circumstances. there's a great book called The Spirit Level- you should read it, you might find it interesting. it explains why equality of income is beneficial to everyone in a country.
the government isn't taking your food and water away from you and giving it to someone else. it's deducting some money from your disposable income and using it to help those who really do need the money basically to survive. are you really that selfish, that you'd rather have money for holidays and clothes and shoes than to help other human beings in desperate need of basic supplies?

if you want to live in a country, you need to contribute to it's welfare as much as you are able. you seem to have a problem with that, so i'm saying that you're welcome to leave if it's not to your liking. but that's just the way developed countries are run.

you think people claiming benefits get a lovely cushy lifestyle? of course not, they don't get much, they get just enough to support themselves and their family. they can't afford cars or decent houses or holidays or any of the things most of us take for granted. of course they'd rather have a job and earn enough to take part in all of the luxuries of life, but maybe they just can't. some are in families in which no one has worked for generations. they grow up in an environment in which it is very hard to push yourself to excell. hopefully they would get support in their school, but not always. it makes it very hard for them to become qualified enough to be able to get themselves a decent job.

you've just lost the argument, me lovely. if you're gonna discount my arguments purely because i'm not american, that just shows you're losing.
yeah, i'm having a cup of tea right now. it's lovely.
i sincerely hope doesn't save the queen, she's on her way out anyway.
neither of those things detracts from the fact that liberals exist everywhere, love. i know cause i am one, and look! i'm all the way over here! we all share the view that everyone deserves a fair chance at life, and the wonder of the internet is i can discuss that with people from all the way over the other side of the pond! i follow american politics, so i think i'm entitled to an opinion, don't you?

I also agree with this poll, even though I do consider myself liberal, though I'm pretty much a mixture. Though it's not very good to just get angry at people for their beliefs.

A lot of people who live on welfare/food stamps are able bodied. Also I have a mentally handicapped brother who is capable of getting his own food.
  • purplei... MorbidC... 2012/07/04 17:28:39
    purpleicecreamvan<3
well, your brother is lucky. a lot of mentally handicapped people find it hard to find a job, and when they have a job they find it hard to keep that job due to the nature of their disability. everyone is an individual with individual abilities and needs, and some people simply can't provide for themselves. people on welfare may be able bodied, but we're in a huge global crisis during which millions have lost their jobs due to businesses going bankrupt. some people claiming benefits may be lazy, but the majority simply can't find jobs because there aren't any.

Forcing others to provide for you is slavery, which is something you liberals seem to love.

oh god, really? deducting some of your disposable income, money you can afford to give, to help those who literally are struggling to feed and clothe their children, that's slavery? you need to retake history, i can tell you from what little i know that slavery is a little different.

YEap...I share a lot...I give 10% of my income to The Salvation Army...I have actually served with them on disasters as a volunteer....I've helped people at Christmas time through them....GREAT organization....oh ..and it's not run by the GOVT either......well......NOT YET that is....!!!..Who knows if we have 4 more years with this president...

    purpleicecreamvan<3
if you really hate the government so much that the idea of them taking over an organisation that you believe in disgusts you, perhaps you should leave the country that the government has power over. but honestly, if you're happy to help those in need through the salvation army, why not through taxes that will go towards helping those who cannot afford healthcare to obtain it?
  • Mike purplei... 2012/07/05 12:41:00

haha...because taxes never HELP people....OMG ...you SEE you don't get it..!!!..You think Raising TAXES is the ANSWER....haha.....and you are so wrong.....!!!...Has it worked yet..??..Name one...haha.! ...Now when I give my money to the Salvation Army...i know 80% of that is going to help people in need....that's what REAL organizations do...they help people.....it's not the GOVT place to say ....Ok MIKE ...here give me your money and let's see.....I'llhelp this one...and that one....oh not that one....oh this one....and this..oh wait...not not your kind.....oh and this one...

the government distribute the money to things like building better roads, making sure kids can go to school, there are hospitals to make people better. they also help the elderly, pay for the streets to be clean. some things the government pay for aren't the kind of things people would pay into a charity for, like rehabilitating drug addicts, but they're still really important to society. that is why taxes are necessary.
  • Mike purplei... 2012/07/06 22:26:59
    Mike
Your right and thank you for answering my point...it's called a TAX....and that is what this is ...a Health Care Tax......so now it's my responsibility as a faithful tax payer to pay it.......so that Mrs Johnson here who chooses to have 4 boys from 4 different fathers....and takes special drugs so that she can have a special needs one so she can get more money...(and I'm not just saying that ....I heard the lady talking to the other lady on how to have an child with special needs..)....yeap...no thanks....I'll pay my state taxes for the roads and the schools....but it's got to stop somewhere.....THANK God.....it will be repealed in November..!
  • purplei... Mike 2012/07/07 15:39:02
    purpleicecreamvan<3
think of poor mrs johnson's children- they didn't choose to be born under those circumstances, with special needs. they deserve a house to live in and food on the table as much as any other child, regardless of their mother's mistakes.
  • Mike purplei... 2012/07/07 17:39:52
    Mike
I certainly agree with that...they do deserve it......but that's not the cards that were delt to them....it is unfair.....hopefully they will grow up and see that the way to success is through work and consistant progress in it.....
  • purplei... Mike 2012/07/11 15:26:37
    purpleicecreamvan<3
yes, if they do get the chance to grow up. properly. with care and attention and the opportunities in life that lead to having a job- such as a good education. you can't just come in off the streets and get a job because of your good intentions, for that you need certain skills that you need the opportunity to learn. or at the very least, a roof over your head. these children deserve every opportunity in life, regardless of who their parents are and what choices they made.
  • Mike purplei... 2012/07/11 23:18:22
    Mike
OH I so agree......but here's where we differ...and it's ok to disagree......but i don't think the Govt should be the teacher.....the parents need to handle it...that's the way society works....our parents teach us the way we should go....and when we grow up ...we won't stray from it.....if we say ..yea but this inst' happening....then what do we do....say ok....forget that idea.....let's help the parent s that are lazy and do nothing.....your right it's not the child's fault....but it's also not my fault either...
  • purplei... Mike 2012/07/24 10:30:48
    purpleicecreamvan<3
yes, but if you want to live in an educated and healthy society then you need to give everyone the opportunity to have a good education and chances at employment. if you don't want to see kids out in the street then you need to help them. i know it's not your FAULT that some kids have bad parents, but it should be everyone's responsibility to look out for those kids, and pay their education through taxes. just like you'd help a kid if you saw them get hurt in the street- just because their parents aren't there to help them and it's not your fault they hurt themselves doesn't mean they should just be left out there on their own. that would be completely heartless
  • Mike purplei... 2012/07/24 20:51:58
    Mike
I disagree with you...I don't think it's my responsibility for anyone other then me and my family.....now it's sad yes.....but you know what ...there are people in Africa that are starving to death....I who's responsible for them..???...they certainly don't deserve to starve....your argument lacks the ability to reach for all people....if I should have that compassion on the kids who had bastard fathers ...and mothers who don't really care.....there are people all over the world that deserve that too....so yea...I don't think it's my place to have to protect and fund and care for people that continue to make bad decisions...
