Why is it socially "acceptable" for a guy to sleep around, but it's not socially "acceptable" for a girl to do the same?

Thank you, it is always refreshing to see someone buck PC.
I foresee a huge problem looming for women as a result of current trends. The current rate of college admissions and graduation is favoring women by something like 56%/44% and the gap continues to grow. It is very probable that the future holds a time when women grads will outnumber males 2 to 1.
In our culture it has been true that men are far more likely to marry "down" than women in terms of earnings and education. What happens when the pool of women outnumbers the pool of "suitable" men by this ratio? I see women:
    Settling for "less".
    Being alone.
Poaching men away from other women.
If and when this comes to pass it will have the perverse effect of giving men more power since they will be a scarce commodity in a sellers market. To compete for the best and the brightest, women with the looks and earnings will have an advantage and that will put pressure on all women because even the "winners" will have to maintain their advantages or risk losing what they have to a trophy wife.
I see the developing dynamic as a great example of unintended consequences and a reinforcement of the adage "be careful of what you wish for!"!

I've never cheated. Our society is losing all its values because of woman liberation, granted the men of the world ruined it first but with woman behaving the way men are now adays were on a crash course full speed to a society of sexual deviants, self centered irresponsibility, plagued with broken homes and STD's. Our children are doomed. But feed hungry pig's, who cares what kind of world our children inherrit.

well, I'm not really undecided but why is it socially acceptable for EITHER one to sleep around???
STD's aren't discriminating......they hit up both men AND women!
No matter if it's a man or a woman that sleeps around, you're still considered a whore, so what is the difference?
To actually give an answer to this ?, I think the reason why men seem to be able to 'get away with it' more is because this is a MALE driven world.
Men seem to think that they are the masters of the universe and what they do and say is okay but not for a woman.
To me, it makes no sense.
Here's a perfect example.....my husband can go out and have dinner with his friends, can go off on his own and actually have a life and I'm here stuck at home taking care of it and the kids but if I ever want to go out and try to make friends or just have time to myself, I'm given a guilt trip and made to feel bad for wanting to have time to myself....it's just how MEN seem to be.

i think that its wrong because if a boy sleeps around he should be called a hoe just like a girl is called when she sleeps around alot. And most people thinks its all right for a boy 2 sleep around alot but not a girl.

it is a double standard of society dating back thousands of years. if you look into history, it is clear that women were always considered subservient to men, and with men being the superior sex, it was deemed ok for them to have their little "indiscretions". but for women, who men generally like to be pure and untouched, it has always been considered wrong for them to do the same. sadly this has always been so deeply ingrained into society, and into the very concept of male pride, that it is very difficult to overcome. personally, i think that as long as they are being safe about it, just as men should be, women are perfectly entitled to have sex when and with whom they want, within reason and the boundaries of the law of course. sex is a wonderful thing, and it relieves stress, is good for you health, and it just feels damn good and is a truly enjoyable thing to experience. personally i like to experience it as much as possible, as does my fiancee, so we are both quite fortunate in that. i wish everyone, both men and women, the good fortune in such things as her and i share, with or without strings attached.

It's not acceptable for ether. Sex is for a man and a woman, not kids. For Some reason young people think sex is just another game. But what the hell. If the girl gets in trouble have an abortion. Then do it again and again and again. If you are too young to take care of a child, don't have sex. If you don't know how to make love without making a baby don't have sex. If you don't have the money for a child in your life don't have sex. I you don't love the woman don't have sex. If your not a responsible adult don't have sex. Sex is not like having a beer with a friend. What the hell, lets just make sex a game show on MTV, and the loser has to pay for their own abortion. What fun! Socially we could have a block party and do all the people that live next to us. And maybe the children can see how to play the game and make points.

It all has to do with society's perception of men and women, dating back to thousands of years ago. Women's stereotypical role was to have and raise children, while men had much more freedom, worked, chose a job, and chose a wife (or, if they didn't choose a wife themselves, then they chose a wife for their daughter). Even in this modern day and age, we still fall into these same gender biases, allowing men to be studs and girls to be sluts. Is it stupid? Yes. Should it be changed? Yes. Will it? Well, certainly things ARE indeed changing, but there still are people who are going to keep on thinking this for a long, long while--just like there are people (even in the U.S.!) who still think women should be confined to the home, cooking and cleaning and having children.

But it's yet another atavistic, patriarchal attitude, one that sets a certain standard of chastity for women and none for men.

it SHOULDNT be like this, but it is: because a woman is more likely to scream rape than a male. you hear more causes of a woman screaming rape than a man. which....youd be surprised on how many men actually scream rape but never speak up cause theyre so scared.

Speaking of Finnish things, have you ever heard of a HIM album done entirely with violins and cellos and such? And with Ville singing, of course.
