Why is it socially "acceptable" for a guy to sleep around, but it's not socially "acceptable" for a girl to do the same?

I foresee a huge problem looming for women as a result of current trends. The current rate of college admissions and graduation is favoring women by something like 56%/44% and the gap continues to grow. It is very probable that the future holds a time when women grads will outnumber males 2 to 1.
In our culture it has been true that men are far more likely to marry "down" than women in terms of earnings and education. What happens when the pool of women outnumbers the pool of "suitable" men by this ratio? I see women:
Settling for "less".
Being alone.
Poaching men away from other women.
If and when this comes to pass it will have the perverse effect of giving men more power since they will be a scarce commodity in a sellers market. To compete for the best and the brightest, women with the looks and earnings will have an advantage and that will put pressure on all women because even the "winners" will have to maintain their advantages or risk losing what they have to a trophy wife.
I see the developing dynamic as a great example of unintended consequences and a reinforcement of the adage "be careful of what you wish for!"!
STD's aren't discriminating......they hit up both men AND women!
No matter if it's a man or a woman that sleeps around, you're still considered a whore, so what is the difference?
To actually give an answer to this ?, I think the reason why men seem to be able to 'get away with it' more is because this is a MALE driven world.
Men seem to think that they are the masters of the universe and what they do and say is okay but not for a woman.
To me, it makes no sense.
Here's a perfect example.....my husband can go out and have dinner with his friends, can go off on his own and actually have a life and I'm here stuck at home taking care of it and the kids but if I ever want to go out and try to make friends or just have time to myself, I'm given a guilt trip and made to feel bad for wanting to have time to myself....it's just how MEN seem to be.
But it's yet another atavistic, patriarchal attitude, one that sets a certain standard of chastity for women and none for men.
