Why is it customary to eat dessert after dinner, why not before? Was it started by Parents, who were trying to manipulate their Children into finishing their dinners? Or is it simply because people like to save the best tasting food to last?

So you don't fill up on sweets. If I got to eat cake, pie, or candy BEFORE dinner foods when I was a kid, I'd never eat dinner.

With my kids it was all about manipulation. Eat the nasty and get the sweet as a prize. For me, I eat dessert whenever I feel the need. With, or without the rest of the meal.

My parents USED to tell me "If you want your dessert, eat your real food first"so I think its just a scam to make us try to eat our food.

It drives my husband nut, my friends too, because I can not tell you how many times I order dessert first! Try it! No one will ask you to leave the restuarant! Other sort of will admire your courage to be your self!!

Sometimes I do things, simply because it goes against what is considered "normal", just to experience it for myself. lol

It's pointless to eat a cherry pie and then a bowl of soup. No, it's always the soup first (to keep the best for the last).

Because sugar digests easily causing you to lose an appetite. Of course, there are many people who are gluttons who never pay attention to their stomach anyway and keep eating.

I have no idea how that custom originated actually. I am sure it had its inception at some point in western civilization, but I would not want to hazard a guess as to when.

I think the main idea with the parents is for their kids to get all the good nutients before indulging in the sugary foods, hehe.

First off, usually parents don't want their kids to spoil their dinner
eating dessert first. But when you get older and have a good
appetite to eat your dinner after dessert, then go for it. I
sometimes do when I'm real hungry and din din isn't done yet.

It's nice to eat a good healthy meal and then later reward yourself with something sweet and delicious. :-)
