Why does music suck so bad today?

Spy Master 2012/12/08 03:40:52
I will screw up these names; so I won't even dignify them with their existence.
We had the Eagles; The Stones; Led Zeppelin;Blue Oyster Cult;BTO; I could go on for hours; let me not forget; ZZ Top and Kiss and The Band; and The Grateful Dead.

And then we had the Temptation; Bill Withers; Robert Clay; Jimi; and some of the most famous artists in history.

And country had Merle; The Possum;Willie and Waylon; Glen and Vern and on and on.

I have to listen to oldies station..I really tried to listen to the stuff; but country and rock are dead.

More theater than musical talent; more flair then soul..a bunch of special effects that any FX specialist drools over.

And I won't mention rap; never mention rap.

But there are some that still follow the old style; Maroon 5; ColdPlay and a few others.

So why does Music suck so bad today???

Listen, pop music is terrible right now. But believe me there are hundreds and hundreds of great artists waiting to be heard! "Never see another Hendrix?" Bam, Tosin Abasi. No good avant garde music? Actually, a quick search on the web will prove you very wrong; Unexpect, Destiny Potato, among others. Essentially, you need to look underground to find good music, and it's an absolute gold mine right now.

Many reasons- soem of my own:
1- Prioritization of sexuality on screen rather than musical talent.
2- Record companies wanting to make a quick buck off artists, and ignoring their lack of talent, possibly due to point 1.
3-Accelerated use of Autotune as an alternative to having talent.
4-Declining musical tastes and standards of my generation's fans.

There has always been music that sucked. However, it seems that what's popular today is stuff that doesn't make you think, and doesn't require any skill/talent at all. However, if you search for good music, you will find some amazing stuff.

I seriously wonder what parents back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s thought of what we now consider to be classic rock bands...

Look at any Rolling Stone record review section from 1967 when they started to the early 70's. You are bound to see numerous artists and albums which are now classics and still sell. The quality of music was such that they were just albums then. No one recognized they would become classics. 40 years from now, the only album people will remember is Adele. No one else. It's amazing.

I don't know when a band as good as Led Zeppelin will happen again. I'm certain not in my lifetime.
The worse are the pimped out, glorified rhymer's called rappers.
Maybe when musicians focus less on the cool, more on the music, good stuff will happen again.

There will never be anyone like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Motorhead, etc. These guys had guts and integrity at one time. They weren't afraid of what everyone thought. they broke the rules, spent time in jail. That was rock! Now, what I call, pansy rock has been creeping in for sometime now. Arcade fire, My Morning jackset, come on man. Sum41 and Greenday being called punk! Are you kidding me. Punks are aggressive and want to fight against all the wrong doing. The kids now a days have no one to look up to and when they do it's usually Rap, which, in reality is usually some one elses song with a different beat over it or simply words spewing out of an ignorant mouth over a processed drum line. YES! Rock is dead!

Because parents take their kids to see Justin Bieber... The music industry doesn't care about good music they only care about an image that will sell even if its crap.

I like me some 80's rock... I think the 80 was the best time for music, you still had cross over from the 60 and 70's, many of the 80 bands influenced by the 70's bands. It made you go listen to Zepplin when you heard that was bands influence. There were so many different styles of music, John Cougar, The cure, Billy Idol, Culture Club, Joant Jett, Heart, Stevie Nicks, The Cult, ACDC, Van Halen, Queen, Depeche mode, Eurythmics, Erasure. I always lean towards rock but with the crap they call music now it makes me appreciate all those other types of music we got to hear in the 80's It was a buffet of styles and sounds.

Everything now sounds like Britney Spears or Justin Bieber.

I'd love to see and hear something like this again...

If heaven is real I'd like to see if she is performing there, I'd love to see Janis sing live, I'd pay to see her, I would not got to see Britney for free.

This is a LIVE performance for me...

I don't know. I don't even listen to it, anymore . . . It is so melodic and there's no tune . . . If you heard the first one you heard the last one . . . There is no beginning and there's no ending; but in a 3-minute song, there's 30-minutes of middle.
  • Crische 2012/12/08 21:29:05
The real artists are still great and evolving. Commercialized 'pop' music can just make you sick though to hear how synthesized it is.

  • moriarty 2012/12/08 05:56:35
because no talent hacks and corporate creations are far easier to sell, market and control. It's all in house. This has been going on for years. The 80's and 90's saw alot of small bands, good bands getting signed, never getting promoted and then dumped. All tax write offs. A big record company game. It's all run by accountants and ex hippies with political agendas. The so called independent labels are not truly independent. As long as they have to contract with a major label to distribute their stuff they are simply a backdoor.

This is the age of Mediocrity. The front of the train waiting for the caboose. Goes well beyond music. Business is run by people that only know staff meetings, e-mail delegation, trendy buzz words dominated by three letter acronyms. Government is run by Jonestown salesmen. A culture of fakers. That's how 3rd world cultures can eat our lunch.

I'm not sure what happened but my favorite music comes from the 90s and back predominately.
Today's music is purely garbage predominately, and that pisses me off since music is a big part of who I am.
I can relate to Pink Floyd easier than Falling in Reverse.
I'd rather have drinks with Trent Reznor over Justin Bieber.
Glenn Danzig's autograph would mean more to me than Nicki Minaj's paw print.
    It's just not the same.

That's probably just because you have a different opinion from most people. I was like that for a while, but now I feel like pop music is improving.
