If people would bother to read their decisions, they would understand what and how something was decided. Most do not bother and play politics with the decisions - the Court is not political but politicians and special interests groups are and they know that most people never read a decisions but rely in sound-bits and rhetoric.
I am appalled at the number of people who actually do not understand what the Court does and how important it is to all of us. I include such people as Rep Pelosi who recently said a law was Constitutional and "the Court may find something different." I admit I wanted to just shake her - there is only one group in this entire country that determines if a law is Constitutional and it is a separate and equal branch of government - that, for the record, is the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
Many of their decisions are split these days. This means it's not based on the constitution but something else..............doesn't it?
Of course their decisions are split because the Court is nicely split between the more left leaning Justices and the right leaning Justices and one Justice best described as moderate. It does not mean it is not based on the Constitution; it means they are interpreting the various case law and the Constitution and making a decision on what they believe to be true. It is why we have 9 Justices - so there will be a tie breaker.
Recently there have been 9-0 decisions, January 2012 - one on religious freedom in one of the most important religious liberty case in twenty years, Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The government lost 9-nothi...

Recently there have been 9-0 decisions, January 2012 - one on religious freedom in one of the most important religious liberty case in twenty years, Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The government lost 9-nothing as the Court unanimously rejected its narrow view of religious liberty as “extreme,” “untenable” and “remarkable.” and the Supreme Court, in a 9-0 decision, slapped down of Environmental Protection Agency’s arrogant denial of property owners’ right to contest in court the EPA’s administrative abuses.
No one pays any attention unless they have an interest and if they do not like the decision, they scream 'political' and worse 'they are not following the Constitution'
on second thought, I guess 'Too political' covers it.
they're appointed for life in order to KEEP POLITICS OUT of their decisions. of course, this isn't the first time that plan backfired - and I suppose it won't be the last.
meanwhile, we are living in 'interesting times'. damn those Chinese and their curses! whoever coined that one sure knew what he was talking about.
