Why do the "adults" on this site treat the ones that are younger than them like they're mentally handicapped?

Seriously, my age doesn't make me stupid and it doesn't make you look smart to use my age against me to make my points invalid. That's exactly why I don't have my age on here anymore. Where do you get off believing that just because you're older that automatically makes you right?
You!

Some of the young people on this site are pretty stupid, but so are many of the adults. I love coming on here, as a 17-year-old and find myself typing better and using better arguments than people who are in their 40s.

Because they're intimidated by the next generation. Their brains just can't comprehend our intelligence.

My thoughts on this are, If you are young and decide to throw your hat in on subject that is outside of your experience range, then you are probably going to be answered by an older adult that has experience in that matter. All too often on some of these polls, I am seeing people that could not possible have a clue on the matter weighing in as if they themselves were present for the event being discussed when in fact there is no way an 18 year old would know anything close to why X occurred in 1985. I don't know about being 'right' per se, but experience will always overpower audacity.

I would however give this as 'advice' if you smell bullshyt, then call it for what it is.

Because thats the mental handicap of people older then you, they think they are smarter and know better simply "because" their older then you.

People associate age with experience. Which is true to a certain point, but many times, people just don't like being told that they're wrong. Maturity and intelligence is not based on age, it just happens to be that older people tend to be more mature.

It never makes a person more correct on their opinion unless they have factual data to back it up. How the information is presented makes a difference, I don't need to hear some brain dead person regardless of age F this and F that to show their ignorance and lack of vocabulary. A smart person has no age limit only information to share.

In my experience, they do this when they know they have lost an argument but don't want to admit it. I also find it very ironic when they complain about how young people think they know everything, when in fact the 40+ age group seems to be far worse in that department, and ruder to boot. Of course older people have more life experience and wisdom, but that doesn't mean they're always right. Same goes for people who dismiss the elderly as having nothing relevant to say anymore. Generations should learn from each other instead of stubbornly fighting each other.

I'm not saying it's not, just giving an opinion why they do it. It looks bad if they use age against someone anyway.

In about twenty years you'll understand. There are no shortcuts around age to wisdom.

You will look back in disbelief at the asinine things that seemed like a good idea as a kid.
Things like calling yourself '666_Maggots' and claiming you are God will make you cringe.

Must you insult me? Can you not answer a question without being a total jerk about it? And don't act like LaVeyan Satanism only occurs in teens, my 30 year old neighbor introduced me to it. And 666_Maggots is a Slipknot reference, it's based on music choice, that may or may not change.

    How does this change anything?

Hey look, I did idiotic things when I was a kid. I am speaking about me - not just you.
I drove ten miles in reverse in a snowstorm , rode a wheelstand for three miles down the highway my motorcycle, ate a big 'cockroach sandwich' -with big mosquito, got arrested for spitting on a police officer, got chased down by a helicopter after evading the park police for riding my dirt bike on the golf course, got drunk and drove my dad's car around my parents backyard - then fell asleep in my neighbors yard.......the list of stupidity is endless.

And older people do that as well. I recall my uncle, whom is in his mid-forties, doing idiotic things like that but then there is me, I tend to not do idiotic things. My opinions just differ from a lot of people. That doesn't make me a moron. My age doesn't, at least shouldn't, degrade my beliefs into a piece of crap. To invalidate someone opinions/beliefs is idiotic, it sure as hell doesn't make yours valid.

Not all beliefs can be valid. That doesn't mean yours are wrong particularly with respect to the things you have spent the time or had the experience to understand. However, time and experience come with age.

Mark Twain may have said it best.
"When I was a boy of 14 I thought my old man was so dumb I could hardly stand to have the him around but when I reached 21 I was amazed at how much the old guy had learned in 7 years."

While there is a certain "wisdom" that only seems to come with age some people never grow up and some young people are wise beyond their years

Besides, people who think they know everything are extremely annoying to those of us who do.
