Why do *some* people think we need religion to function as a human?

People think we need religion to function because, for a long time, that actually was what grounded society. Myth and superstition kept us bound together, and were our explanation for things before we developed science and rational systems of thought.

i recall a history class where the professor told us that in the wild wild west, it was religon that tamed the towns since there was a lot of gambling and drinking going on...so with that said, it presents a form of structure for the wayward lost sheeps

Mhmm sure, I know about religion. I've read the bible and I was raised Jewish and I know about other religions such as Paganism and Shintoism. There is just no need for it, so I don't see where people get off pressing their beliefs on people and saying they're immoral.

We live in an uncertain world with only very few absolutes, such as death being one of them. People want structure and sense in their lives so they make belief systems to give them that in this world and life..

i think it's because some prefer the absolutes to anything else. their view is the "truth" and anyone who doesn't follow similar paths to them is wrong. the whole "you're either with us or against us" mentality is quite obvious.

I think the term Satanist should be changed. Anyone who buys into the concept of a Satan and a God, would be foolish to worship Satan. My point though; Satanist don't actually worship Satan they simply put the highest importance upon the self, and they don't fear dabbling in human indulgences.
