Why do so many people ask so many stupid questions?

Walt 2012/07/14 05:16:42
They are points gamers. Apparently they think SH awards prizes for Leaderboard status.
They aren't all that bright. They think stupid questions are smart.
I don't know why some people ask so many stupid questions, but it is annoying.

The only reasonable solution is to do a "clear all" on Shared Questions, meaning that even meaningful questions wind up in the garbage.

Oh well.

reasonable solution clear meaning meaningful questions wind garbage

I've lost count of how many people I've de-friended for it - not because I don't like them but because I can't spend time on looking through all of that with what little I have to be here.

Other questions that might be asked are -
How stupid are the people who ask stupid questions?
Is wasting time on stupid questions, stupid?
Who is stupider, the person who asks a stupid question or the one who answers it.

    This could get fun.......

Maybe the saying 'One man's trash is another man's treasure' can be applied here. I too have done a dump delete and I've been guilty of asking stupid questions. But only for sarcasm. One of my stupid questions was 'Is the sky blue?' I was surprised I got intelligent answers.

"Is the sky blue?" isn't stupid.

cause the internet is fun, and not always do people want to have deep conversations, but just goofy little banters and such. sometimes that might end up looking stupid

I'm at that point with 1500 shared questions. I'll just have to delete them all. Need to trim friends down too. If I get more than 3 questions a day from them they will be gone.

I'm going to have to whittle down my friends list, too. It's a shame to have to do that, since you know they're going to send you another friend request anyway. I doubt I will recall who I deleted and they'll end up right back on my friends list in a couple of months.

SH should have some way to turn off their shared questions so that you don't have to unfriend them. I have to ungroup too. I get the same question on 6 groups. Sometimes the answers are different / different people depending which group the same question was asked on.

Same here! Earlier in the week, I quit about 1/3 of the groups I belong to because I was getting swamped with duplicate questions. There's not enough time in the day to wade through all of that.

    Yeah. Right.

Doing that, I wasted an hour and a half tonight and still had 35 pages left to go through.

There isn't enough time in the week to do that.

    Yep. That's the only solution.

And that's what I'm talking about.

People asking constant stupid questions means we have to "clear all" without getting to the good questions.

Anything asking me about personal preferences that are meaningless unless you are part of my daily world are not "good questions."

Why would someone care if I like walks on the beach? Are they asking me out on a date?

Why would someone care if I go mountain climbing? Are they trying to recruit me for their survivalist training mission?

On SH I'm constantly amazed by how often profound discussions will spring from the most mundane or 'stupidest' of questions. It's almost as if they tap some hidden wellspring of the human psyche or collective consciousness.

. . .But then, the Web itself is kinda like a collective soul or digital Tower of Babel.

    I haven't asked a question in like...a year.

The problem I have with it is that people are sharing over 600 questions every day and over 3/4 of them are of the "do you take vitamins" or "what's your favorite color" variety.

This means that I miss out on meaningful questions.

    Get it?

Well, people just can't help themselves from it, everybody is going to ask so many questions like that no matter what. You can at least answer one question that you will find meaningful, just do what makes you comfortable okay?

Yes. Approximately 600 per day is what I get in my Shared Questions. I took most of 24 hours off and wound up with 1,250+.

It ticked me off, especially after I tried deleting the stupid ones, spent 1 1/2 hours doing it and then gave up and deleted all of them.
