Why do people look down and ridicule vegetarians and vegans, while giving automatic respect to muslims and jews for not eating pork?

The real ethical and moral conviction of vegans and vegetarians to not eat meat based on the respect for the animals themselves is a lot more honourable and respectable than mindless religious dogma.

I don't know where you've been, but I've never seen any respect for Jews and Muslims, especially not for not eating pork. That being said, vegetarians and vegans are looked down on too.
I really don't think anyone should be given respect for their dietary choices. The only people expecting respect are holier-than-thou vegetarians who think meat-eaters are savages, and holier-than-thou meat eaters who think vegetarians are pussies. Everyone else really doesn't care about what other people eat. Most vegetarians (including myself) really couldn't care less about people eating meat. The main animal-related issue we're worried about is how they're treated before slaughter. And we definitely don't think we're better than meat eaters.

I was actually unaware that people looked down on vegetarians and vegans. My god-family is vegetarian and one of my best friends is a vegan, but I've never heard much about it. I was a vegetarian for about 2 months but never experienced any of that. Either way I don't see a lifestyle choice like a religious denial of meat or an ethical denial of animal products to be anything to make fun of. I also don't see it as anything particularly honorable. I like eating meat and I know that I could never maintain a proper diet like that, but If you like veggies and don't want to eat meat: great. We're all different.

Lmao. The way you sound, I don't blame people for putting you down for your choices. You sound entirely holier than thou, and probably put meat eaters down for simply partaking in the eating habits they were meant for. You don't want to eat meat or meat by products? Good for you, but shut up about it already and stop acting like you're so awesome for doing so.
