Why do people get MAD when you tell them the truth?!? Especially if it's your HONEST opinion? Is honesty not valued anymore?

It's funny that after reading all of the opinions on this post that I came to a major conclusion. Opinions do not always equal the truth. When you give your opinion to someone else they can call you a liar and they may or may not be right. Or, they can feel as though your opinion is essentially calling them a liar. We have to be so careful with what we believe is true because its subjective in alot of cases. I love the advice "ask first if they want your honest opinion" I'm adopting that from now on.

People don't like to hear their preconceived ideas proved to be wrong.

Because people really don't want the truth. They really want you to tell they what they want to hear not your real opinion.

They can't handle the truth, just look who is in office.

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

As a scientist I had to report the truth, many times the people were upset, however once I explained the results and what we/ they had to do to rectify the results they weren't so mad. Opinions now are a different matter, if you have a different opinion that a liberal you are a hater, racist, something else horrible, or some other crap. If you have a different opinion than a conservative, you just have a different opinion.

A lot of people get mad because they don't like to hear what they know is true verified.

They don't want to hear the truth. They want the sugar coated version.

Honesty is (sometimes) still valued, but only as it pertains to yourself. People very, very rarely want an honest opinion regarding themselves or their choices.

Always ask if they want your full honest opinion first. That way you're never to blame if they answered you "yes".

Yes people get mad. And I tell people that know me well, "Do not ask me for my opinion on something because I might piss you off". It is a fair warning.

That is not always the case. If I told Sandra Bullock that she is beautiful (true), I do not believe she would get mad. My wife might, but Sandra would not! LOL !

People get mad because they don't want to hear the truth. Yes honesty is still valued. And I myself would rather hear the truth as opposed to your version of the lie.

Honey, people are afraid of the truth,it may show their shortcomings, it may prove their theory is invalid, and worst of all it may show them that you are right and NO we can't have that. Honesty is frowned upon by individuals that enjoy living this lie. Sure they say that honesty is the best policy and all the while they are living lies,lies nothing but lies. People do not attach value to honesty anymore. They choose to wallow in their selfrighteous web of lies void of integrity thus making their character as a human being worthless, and their words null and void

Most people live with self-delusion, in opposition to reality. (Why else would the majority of adult Americans remain in denial of scientifically established evolution?). Your confronting them with their delusions will earn you no kudos or hugs. And, no, honesty is little valued in our culture which prizes wealth above all, regardless of how it's won.

They're usually mad at themselves because they know it's the truth but don't want to hear it for various reasons.

Honesty, alas, is not valued anymore. And I cite the fact that nobody has done anything about all of the stupid lies that are being thrown about in this election campaign just to stir up hatred and mistrust, etc. But as far as I'm concerned? Honesty is right up there with integrity and character. You lie to me, you've lost my attention for good. Period.
