Why do people ask " when was the last time you cried" do they just want to make you as miserable as them?

i think they just want to understand themselves more by understanding you..if that makes sence, they ask you so they could compare your answer to thiers and see if there emotionally ok.

In my opinion, asking that question is a form of self examination. You cry at some time for whatever reason and wonder if you are like others; if you cry as often or for the same reasons as they. Am I a real man if I cry? Women usually just cry. Men turn aside, out of view and cry. Women sob aloud and openly. Men cry quietly and reservedly. Women cry for many reasons,-some obvious and some re-actively from some silly little thing that makes women cry. I remember crying when I was 13 years old,-then not again until I was 65 when my oldest daughter, Rebecca, went to Heaven in 2001...then not again until my sweet wife, Donna Lee, went to Heaven in 2009. I never thought a man should cry...it is un-manly. Now, dozens of times since 2001 and 2009, I have recalled a memory and choked back a tear. Frankly, now it would be very easy to cry...but I don't because it wouldn't bring back my angel daughter Rebecca or my sweet wife, Donna Lee.

Now, excuse me...I need to get a handkerchief... :) :) :) just kidding...

I guess it's as good a question as any other. I don't mind replying, I'm a crier, I cry when I'm happy, I cry when our national athem is played, I cry at funerals, and even at weddings. I cry when a hear about a child being abused or murdered or starving. I'm a very emotional person, and my emotions run down my face quite often. And I'm glad I'm like that.

Some people, yes, others no. The thing about crying is that its not necessarily linked to negative emotions. Humans have a wide range of "types of tears". Fear, laughter, happiness, sadness all have the ability to bring about crying. One could simply just be asking out of curiosity.

Maybe they feel like crying or they are crying and feel guilty or bad about it and just want to be told it's normal to cry. We all should do it when we feel like it. It's not good to hold in the stress.

I think they might just be curious, and are making small talk, it doesn't have to have a deep meaning behind it. I also think it matters on who is asking you the question, such as, if it was your doctor.
