Why do finger tips and lips taste buttery or salty?

Well, when I was younger I would lick my finger tips and they tasted like butter.
I've also had my first kiss recently and I've licked my own bottom lip just now: tasted like saltiness or something.
Any intelligent explanation for it? Does it have something to do with the tongue and taste buds or is it actually the fingers/lips that taste the way they do?

+2Thanks for having a sense of humor. Here's a possibility; hormones and the teens. During these exciting years our sensory faculties do change what they register due to hormone release and other factors. Pregnancy does the same thing. Seeing a doctor to confirm it's nothing to worry about is a good idea but since you're in Canada, by the time you get seen you will probably be in your early 20s. No disrespect here, but your medical system does prioritize and buttery lips and fingers must be low on the list. Except maybe in Quebec. If it really worries you, please have it checked. I asked my doctor why my urine smells like Rice Krispies and she threw me out.reply - dessy Captain... 2011/01/07 01:21:19
