Dialogs I've had with Atheists has shown me that some discount/ignore any Spiritual impact that they are having at any given point, by either side. Your question reminds me of the encounter Yeshua/Jesus had with Lucifer/Satan/Devil in the Wilderness. The Devil used scripture in his 'debate' with Yeshua, and lost.
It has been my experience that christian repeatedly misquote the bible and have no idea what many passages actually mean. Many have never even read the entire bible.
You need to get out and meet more people. Most Christian churches have at least one Bible study group. Join one, at least temporarily, but it would only be polite to tell the teacher why you're there
From one "Murph" to another I say Amen,brother!! I have been in a number of debates where atheists will mis-quote but when they start to use parables against me I know the person I'm debating has absolutly no idea what they are talking about.
If atheists were so intelligent they would either try to understand what they were reading or not waste time on it in the first place, since they feel they know so much.They do understand and that is what gets the religios nuts all worked up.. Insults do not a good debate make, nor a good debater. Clean up thy language, thou Holy man, or quit the debate, for if all you have are threats, insults and the debating tactics of the 2nd grade school yard, then there is no use in debating you at all on anything. Well said. I don't like the idea that atheists feel it's ok to continually attack Christians but expect us to just sit back and take it!! There comes a point when turning the other cheek is not an option ( at least,not a viable one ) and we will defend our faith ( NOT religion ) to the end.
Well, I'll put it like this. What I've learned about being a good Christian has nothing to do with church ( I stayed out of church for 23 years ) but rather "plant the seed". It's not up to us to convince anyone of anything. I feel most atheists are atheists because they wish to live their life with no constraints ( in my experiance ). What can you say to someone that has that mindset?
Please note that there are massive numbers of christians the degrade atheists and agnostics on a regular basis. Not only their beliefs, who they are and what they are, their character, their lives and their lifestyle in general.
