Why are you "faith without works is dead"? or Why do you believe we are saved by grace alone?

Salvation is also without exception "the gift of God." "For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23)." Look at Ephesians 2:8, 9: "For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Read Romans chapter Five where salvation is called God's gift six times.

Forgiveness and salvation are the cause of, not the result of salvation.

I believe both statements. We are saved by God's grace alone, not based on anything we can do to make ourselves more presentable or acceptable to God.

The "faith without works" comment comes from James chapter 2 in the Bible. It deals primarily with how to show to other people that your stated faith is real. It doesn't have in focus the mode of salvation, rather the veracity of the salvation/faith you claim. This is further reinforced by Jesus' teaching in Matthew 7 that you would know people by their fruits (their actions).

If your faith doesn't inspire you to do anything, it probably isn't real faith.

I don't think it's unreasonable to base opinions on fact rather than faith. And just the fact that they are opposed should tell you something about faith.

Most "men" people never have enough. The creator of the universe and us could show up tomorrow and if it, he didn't fit some vane preconcived notion of what they thought God should be they would all want to destroy it, him.

They are TWO DIFFERENT ISSUES... We are saved by Grace, YES. There is nothing we can do to earn Salvation. But, it would be a CHEAP GRACE, if we did not show our love and appreciation of Jesus Christ, if we did do and act in ways that would display the Gospel... feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give a drink the the thirsty, care for the sick, visit those in prison. So our WORKS are a reflection of the Grace we have received, not a means to Grace.

It's interesting to note that Martin Luther, at the time of the Reformation, hated that line so much from the Epistle of James that he wanted James removed from the Bible.
