Why are religious movements losing their momentum in today's society?

ANGEL 2012/06/07 14:07:45
I recently posted a poll asking people about their opinion as to whether religion is gaining or losing influence in today's society. Every answer was that it appears to be losing its' influence. According to a recent Gallup poll, 7 out of 10 Americans felt it was losing its influence. The question of this poll is - Why?

Whether you are involved in a religion - be it Christianity, Scientology, Judaism, Muslim, etc. or if you are an Atheist or Agnostic - why do you think the tide has turned? What effect will this have on society in the future?
You!

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-7)

I don't think it is, but it may seem that way by the small amount of non-religious people becoming more vocal. I think there are more religious than non-religious here, but they are less vocal when it comes to talking religion.

To me there seem to be quite a bit of non-religious on SH. They are very vocal. I guess it depends on which polls you visit.

I do browse polls asking what a person's religious views, or something religious, and I normally see the same rotation of non-believers and some news ones, but for the most part most of the religious here seem to be in the politics section.

Religion has made many spurious claims over the period of its reign and dominion of human culture and civilisation. Then Science (that Bitch!) came along and started asking a bunch of questions and pointing to some big, gaping, holes in Religion's game.

Humans stood around and pointed at stupid Science, laughing and giggling; but Science pimped those bitches out with antisepsis, internal combustion engines, electric lights and computers (!).

Humanity, all decked out in synthetic fabrics, jacked up on steroids, and taking vicarious trips around the galaxy via satellites and spaceships and super sized telescopes, looked back at Religion and delivered that classic Janet Jackson line "What have you done for me... late-ly???" Science wrapped his big-ole Pimp Daddy arm around humanity, squeezed its tit and jumped on his cosmic hog and drove off into the nebula...

There's no religion. The reason why most people aren't doing God's work is because they're not listening to God.

people are real, animals are real the world is real, the universe is real and so on. What I am saying is that gods and other imaginary beings aren't real. They are myths.

My statement was very clear there is no god of any sort it is a man made creation of fantasy

God created all of those things you just said, so if those things are real than God is real.

No god created nothing. Man created thousands of gods and thousands of creation myths and not one of them is real. Hell even the bible has 2 creation myths in different parts of genesis amongst all it's other BS and hypocrisy

Then once again you would be wrong. Formally trained in a faith based school for 9 years and studied, both formally and informally, religions on 4 continents over a 40 year period. Read your bible in 4 different version including in Latin. And that is just the quick overview

Matter how much you study, and take classes you will be able to prove God's powers, only God himself knows why things happen. That's when believing comes in. A believer in God isn't wrong for believing in his words.

Most people like myself on this site are sick and tired of people like you hitting the reply button and telling us that everything that we say are wrong, just because I don't agree with you. If you are bored than go answer another question.

Because I see how mad they get at people like you, and they haven't spoke up, and someone has to. I'm not doing the same thing like you. You're going around telling me that everything I said is wrong, do you think that I'm just going to let you push me around?, because if that's what you think than think again. I'm not trying to find every question that you had answer, find your answer and hit the reply button and say that everything that you say is wrong.

I think you need some medication. I ran across you on 2 polls where you said ridiculous things and you keep coming back for more. Get some help your delusions and myths are getting the worst of you.

BTW you and they get made because your superstitions and myths are challenged by truth and fact.
