Why are people afraid of our ghostly brothers and sisters?

ghosts are usually people just like us, except they have left their physical shell but haven't gone to the afterlife, they may have chosen to walk among us, they may not want to leave home or they may have to tell us sommat or show us sommat so they can go to the afterlife.
i dont get why people fear them, i know there people like us
