Why are humans so violent?

Humans are violent because they have a hardwired need to tell other people how to live. When other people resist, violence ensues.

............Actually, I try to be a non violent person.........it is true, that Mankind when faced with threats against their lifestyle, like being pressured to make an impulsive decision, sometimes makes some persons go into a defensive mode, as said by others here, We can in some cases going into denial or symbolically climbing into a shell, or even symbolically a dark cave...........there are helpful organizations some dealing with Anger Management issues, there is no need to bottle things up, to the point that at some point, it explodes in volcanic behavior, at that point, professional counseling should be the next giant step.........disturbed persons need to realize that pain and anger, held within is like a poison to the body, eating away at one's nervous system, at that point, the afflicted individual needs to do the following...........Take a Giant Step, Forward, and phone an Anger Management professional team, the organizations are ready to help, just ask.........

It's very much a cultural phenomenon. Other countries are much less violent. Generally people become angry and violent out of fear and the U.S. is a fearful society. Look at the popularity of fundamentalist churches and Limbaugh.

It is genetic... they can't help it...

Along with men wanting to sex everything in sight...

Fortunately :: Social programming has the power to override genetic programming in the majority of cases.

Unfortunately, not quite enough cases get overridden though.

chemicals in the air,water and food contribute a lot to it. go to a doctor and you will get worse,guaranteed.

we're literally animals who, when threatened, have base survival instincts.

Simple, violence is satisfying.

When a stressful situation arouse back in the cave man days it was usually because something was trying to kill and/or eat you or because you were hungry and needed to kill something to eat. Since sitting down to talk rationally with a hungry tiger or polity asking a deer to impale itself on a stick isn't very effective in these people instead become violent and instead stab said tiger or deer with a stick. This resulted in either the tiger leaving to find easier prey or a dead deer to eat.
Now however we have many more causes of stress, but our brain is still wired in the instinctual "fight or flight" mode as a solution to stress, causing people to become violent when it isn't necessary.

Because we forgot were we came from, simple as that.

Survival Instinct. It's not really useful to us now-a-days but back when we were hunting and living in caves it came in handy to be violent... Well, it kept us alive at least.

#1- Humans are built in a way where they just simply tend to be irrational creatures with too many emotions conflicting, #2- The media brainwashing, #3- It's mostly America really. LOL :P

you know it's not just america lol. we're not the only crazy people running around with guns and conflicting emotions. *cough cough* afghanistan.

LOL, well, that's why I said MOSTLY, not 100%. :P Humans aren't only in America, that would B odd, or kool I guess since there would B a variety of odd intelligent creatures in every country surrounding us that we could converse with & gain knowledge from. :D
Anywho, it's not all of Afghanistan, a lot of people over there don't want a war. Besides, if they were doing to us what we are doing to them, a lot of Americans would want to start war against them too, even though it isn't right either way. :-)
