Whoever Controls the Language Controls You?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/08/22 22:20:48
“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought?… Has it ever occurred to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?… The whole climate of thought will be different. In fact, there will be no thought, as we understand it now. Orthodoxy means not thinking-not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.” George Orwell, 1984

The same dynamic is taking place today through the media, colleges, and public schools. It is also evident in many national organizations. We have to be on guard continually to know what reality is and what truth is. When we hear lies repeated often enough, we tend to believe them. This is one reason why freedom requires eternal vigilance. We must even keep a close eye on the use or misuse of our language.

Nineteen Eighty-Four and Orwell’s other novel Animal Farm can teach us a lot about what is transpiring right here at home. We are being controlled! Big Brother is watching, even now while you read this article. You don’t really believe privacy exists anymore do you?

The primary point of this article is to explore how language control can be just as powerful a weapon as guns or bombs. Limiting or controlling our vocabulary (Political Correctness) limits thoughts and therefore limits certain actions or arguments deemed inappropriate by the state.

These types of societal restraints can even be enforced within businesses, homes, or in personal relationships

Orwell’s Thought Police do exist and do control our thinking to at least some degree. So many words in our vocabulary have been removed, modified, or totally changed in definition over the last few decades. As liberals, socialists, and Marxists have gained more and more influence in our society, our vocabulary has been limited and remanufactured to conform to their vision.

Before the Thought Police, I had always believed that the communists, environmentalists, feminists, and homosexuals were radical. I guess I was mistaken. I think we are experiencing the effects of something called logomachy (New Word Alert!).

    excellent ...reb!!!

i know well the power of words...
and many here on sh know i know-
    so they avoid me-

    political correctness...
    is a blunt clumsy methodology...
but on the right folks...[ read.. prepared]
in the right setting...[ read ...prepared]
    it works marvelously-

we are a nation of prepared rubes...
    in a prepared environment-

    aside from political correctness...
there are far more subtle ...
    tools and methods-
    insidious ones-

    an interesting experiment...try it...

find a dictionary that is pre 1960s
    compare definitions of words...
    pertaining to politics ...
    governance...
    ethics and values-
