Sheer clothing seems to be a big trend right now, as evidenced by Julianne Hough and Gwen Stefani's latest outfits. Julianne Hough (aka Ryan Seacrest's girlfriend) looked gorgeous at Wednesday night's Us Weekly Hot Hollywood Style event, where she was given the "Free Spirit" style award. Julianne Hough's burgundy dress was demure in some places but sheer in others, showing just a hint of "sideboob."

Meanwhile, at last Friday's world premiere of Paul McCartney "My Valentine" video, Gwen Stefani strutted her stuff in a sexy black jumpsuit that was sheer from head to toe, but only on the sides of her body. There you have it! Selectively sheer fashion is hot. So who wore it better, Julianne Hough or Gwen Stefani?

It's too hard to choose. Gwen wears more casual sheer. Julianne wears more dressy sheer. The clothes are really badly designed.

Gwen has always been something of a risk taker when it came to fashion, but over the years she has drifted into a more classic style while still being sexy. I think this outfit on her epitomizes that.

Either that, or maybe I just don't really care for Julianne Hough.
