and unlike the comment that implies that conservatives are yearning for a civil war, there's no desire to have to go there, but make no mistake... there's also no fear of going there if left no other choice..

The "conservatives" would probably win, just because it seems that its mainly "conservatives" who have a fetish for secession (not that there's anything wrong with that). So they would likely draw first blood and have stockpiled weapons, supplies, etc...

Ideally, if such a scenario was even remotely looming, we should go ahead and have each state elect its own president. The former U.S. president can have D.C. The intelligent (or just plain sensible) people will start making treaties with their neighbors.
