Who Talks More, Men or Women?

At risk of sounding stereotypical here, it does seem like women gab a whole lot more than men do. But according to a recent study, POWERFUL men talk more than powerful women do. Ah.
Here's the latest, brought to you in the Administrative Science Quarterly by Yale faculty member Victoria L. Brescoll:
--In a study of United States senators, more powerful male senators talked a lot more than less powerful male senators. But powerful female senators did not talk more than less powerful female senators. What gives?
--An analysis of a similar experiment suggested that powerful women hesitated to talk more out of fear that they would be seen as less likable, "out of line," domineering and too controlling, and that they would lose power and be less effective. Was this study taken in the 1950s or what?
--In a third study, talkative male CEO candidates were rated as more suitable for leadership than less talkative ones, but quieter female candidates were rated more highly. Ladies, it seems like we still have a way to go toward that glass ceiling -- even in Congress!

Women generally talk more than men. Men who talk are always frowned upon and people often say, “You talk like a woman,” to men who talk too much. The nature of men is talk less and act more. This is why men generally talk less than women.
Do you know that men talk a lot too just like women? While it is true that women talk more than men, studies show that the difference is not remarkable. Men talk a lot too but they are less emotional than women so they could keep their problems to themselves and do not talk about it. Women on the other hand love talking to express themselves.

Majority of women love talking about what they did and what they want to do. They are more detailed than men in many things. They want to talk about simple things that men think are trivial things. They talk about the dress that an insect at home has ruined. They want to talk about everything they did. They want to talk about the dress that they just bought and their two-year old child who could spell dog. While men keep quiet and prefer not to say things aloud even if they are too excited about things themselves. Women express themselves through words while men express themselves through actions.
Men love to talk too but they limit their words because people generally do not like men who talk a lot. Men want to say a few words but with a lot of meaning. They express themselves more through actions rather than words.
Because women are more emotional than men, they often want others to sympathize with them that is why they tell their problems to other people. When they talk, this lessens the stress and it makes them feel more comfortable. While men could keep their problems to themselves, women generally don’t do it because their nature is to talk about their problems and let other people listen to them.
