Some people are so taken by an actor's appearance, that whether or not they are a great actor, is actually secondary. Personally, I am a fan only because of the quality of the acting. I've never seen Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Robert Downey Jr., Natialie Portman, Liam Neeson, or Emma Thompson movie that didn't have me enthralled by their incredible talent. (And yes - I will go out of my way to see any movie starring Jack Nicholson!)

I couldn't care less whether an actor is an Atheist, Christian, involved in Scientology or Wicca, a republican, democrat, or whether they are gay or not. It is their acting ability that draws me to the box office. (Although I do admit that I never mind see Johnny Depp's beautiful face on the big screen)

He's #1 on my list because he has done a lot of acting including theatre acting at the Royal Shakespeare Company wich I really want to go and visit if I ever get a chance to go to Scotland. Yes, his looks are also part of the reason because he has a Scottish accent which I like in a guy. And just in general he is amazing!!!!

Robert Downey jr. such a great actor, and made the best come back ever. I respect him so much, such an inspiration. He is the whole package.

My favorite actor is Gary Sinese. He's a good actor, but more importantly he's a great person. He's been a leading spokesman for The Wounded Warrior Project, and he's the founder of The Gary Sinese Foundation which partners with another organization, and they build homes for severely wounded Vets.

I have to also mention Denzel Washington. While touring a military hospital he wrote a check for the cost of building another visitors' house on the hospital grounds.

They're both good people in my book.

I'm a Sandra Bullock fan. She has a huge list of films, and I've enjoyed every one of them ...... way back to "Speed" and "A Time to Kill" and "The Net" through "Blind Side".

is it about acting ability, or should be, which trims the list of living actors down considerably. There is a second factor though and that deals with the actor's selection of films to appear in- for example, Nicholas Cage showed himself to be a promising actor early in career but most of the time he appears in crap movies (for the paycheck I assume)

All that said, my current favorite is Jack Nicholson
