A pain in the rear. I received calls like you described and I finally got rude with the person. No more calls since then.

I don't know... could be a legitimate telemarketer, or it could be a scam. Always respond with "please remove me from your calling list"... they have to, by American law (I used to be a telemarketer). If you keep getting calls, then it's likely a scam artist.

Do you have caller ID?
IF so .. and you hear the same message .. from multiple numbers ..
I've posted on various scams that are going around ..
(these robo-callers .. are rotating numbers now)
you can go to the federal website ..
and put down the dates, times, numbers they are calling from
and the words of the scam they are using ..

see if someone you know has a caller ID Device you can use (and plug in) ..
so many of these scammers are rotating numbers nowadays ..
I've actually helped those older than myself write up the Sworn statements
so that eventually these scammers can be prosecuted and/or shut down ..

You forgot "big"! I get stuck having to answer as it'd be impossible to have all my business contacts programmed in or the ones I'd like to have contact with. What's very apparent is that "Lady" (I feel you're being to kind!) always calls when I am conducting business!

I don't know, but I'm answering my phone less and less these days if it's not a name or number I recognize. You could spend half your life on the phone with these persistent irritants.

Lots, and they bounce them around to different area codes...so you don't recognize them, and answer...it happens all the time to my husband about pill sales of a pain pill he takes...
And they are persistant...it's unbelievable..
