Jillian 2010/04/14 00:09:52I Think...+3Influences will vary over the different stages of life. As a kid between the ages of 1-7 I'd think parents have a greater influence. But as kids start growing up, they look to their friends to see what they're doing and take that more into consideration. It really depends on how old the kids are that we're talking about.

or friends at sodahead didn't put
me up on this answer until now.
good to see you.
i agree about the endless flood of sex and
also violence in the media.
just think what ten year olds will be like
in ten years!
is it harder to raise a boy or a girl?
great question, sweetheart!!!! xoxo ♥
that's an interesting perspective on it.
i hated walking on eggshells,too.
to pick peer groups.there was a study
done by htis lady pediatrician [the name
escapes me] and she came up with pretty
much what you said.[wrote]
i'm sure your good work will keep
them from going too far off the deep end.
even though i did some dumb stuff in
my life, what my parents taught me stuck.
any kids i may have.
but which is more powerful,in
your opinion?
what my dad taught me as a kid
made me the individualistic type i am.
I think pop culture and peer groups kind of go hand-in-hand. As kids get older the friends and pop culture tend to influence them more. I think in most cases the peers are more influential than pop culture though.
Of course, parents can work hard when the kids are young to teach them how not too go along with peer pressure and stuff as much.
Of course, it all depends on the individual kid, as well the parents and the peers they know. Some are easier to influence than others and some have a mind and opinions of their own as soon as they start walking and talking :)
i think the parents' influence carries us through
all the other stuff.
but,i also think what you teach them can
make a difference when they get around their peers.
i think you'll make an awesome teacher.
formative years you mentioned are the domain
of the parents.
whose do you think is the most powerful?
i do believe it's mainly the parents.
i believe what they teach their kids
is the difference when the peer group's
influence enters into play.
congrats on raising good people.
