Influences will vary over the different stages of life. As a kid between the ages of 1-7 I'd think parents have a greater influence. But as kids start growing up, they look to their friends to see what they're doing and take that more into consideration. It really depends on how old the kids are that we're talking about.

I feel that the endless bragade of media is more of an influence on our children then any one person could ever be, and it's unfortunate, since almost everything in the media is beyond sexualized.

At first, it is the parents. Then as they get older, they begin to want to do what their friends are doing. If you keep them engaged in conversation at home, you still have some influence on how they will react in certain situations. I wasnt able to really talk with my parents openly, but I have allowed my kids to be able to speak what is on their minds. They know that I know there is some stuff that they are going to do that isnt the right thing, but when they tell me about it, I keep my opinions brief, and to the point, and let them know how I feel about it. The next time, they usually make a decent decision. Heck, you just keep on praying that none of their goofy decisions get them hurt or in trouble.

The only way that pop culture or peer pressure has more influence than parents is if parents allow it, at least up to a certain point. Then again, if a parent has done their job right, their influence will be felt even when their kids think they have outgrown listening to mom and dad.

I think it varies and depends on the kid and their home life. For me it was my parents and my older sisters early in life. As I got older I was pretty strong willed and independent. I was never a follower.

I think parents are the main influence the first few years of a child's life, so those first few years are important for teaching kids important values and stuff.

I think pop culture and peer groups kind of go hand-in-hand. As kids get older the friends and pop culture tend to influence them more. I think in most cases the peers are more influential than pop culture though.

Of course, parents can work hard when the kids are young to teach them how not too go along with peer pressure and stuff as much.

Of course, it all depends on the individual kid, as well the parents and the peers they know. Some are easier to influence than others and some have a mind and opinions of their own as soon as they start walking and talking :)

You have to start when your children are young and set a foundation of what is right and wrong. Church is an important part of this. Kids learn by example and it is important that you set it right through your actions you choices through your life.

I think when they're young it's the parents but I think teenagers are easily influenced by their peers and this is why I have decided that I will be home during those very crucial years.
