Which Season Is Worst for Break-Ups? (Facebook Says It's Summer)

Summer lovin' ... may not be all it's cracked up to be. According to Facebook, summer is the peak season of the year for dumping your significant other... or getting the boot yourself. In fact, while spring is peak season for romance, June is the most deadly month of the year for dumping/getting dumped (be especially on guard on Friday and Saturday, the most common dumping days of the week).

So what's the deal? Our friends at How About We offer the following theories:

1. "One possibility is that warm weather and general cheer compel people to a) socialize more and b) appear more attractive (i.e. tans, swimsuits, everyone’s awareness that they’ll be donning tans and swimsuits), thus maximizing the chances that they meet other people and decide that the proverbial field has more to offer than their existing flings."

2. "Another theory would be that the typical relationship simply doesn’t have a shelf-life built to exceed more than three to four months, and, seeing as how February and March are two of the most relationship-friendly months, it should come as no surprise that June is when they tend to dissolve."

I would think winter would be the worst, especially if you live in a cold area. Winter can be depressing, dark and just cold. Put a break-up ontop of that weather and you have a major break-up depression.

The majority of my breakups and a lot of my friends' breakups have been in the winter. And people, this isn't asking which season is most difficult to be single in; it's asking which season has the most breakups!

It is so hard to go through the holidays alone and missing someone that you loved
and cared for. I say stay together for the holidays and after New Years if the relationship cannot be reconciled then part amicably.

yeah winter because its my birthday and christmas. and summer would be the best for breakups because then you can party it up and meet new sexy guys! because those always seem to come out during the summer!!:D

Summer means more competition with others. People are also more inclined to break up with someone after a summer romance and school is about to start. Winter seems to be the most romantic time of year because of cuddling up for warmth and Christmas being around the corner.

Er... yes I agree that most break ups do occur during summer but the WORST time to be dumped I think not. If you are more likely to be dumped during the summer due to the maximizing chance that the significant other you were dating decided that the proverbial field has more to offer than your relationship. Then why can't it work the same way for you. Therefore, why would you let a break up ruin your summer? "when one door closes another one opens (BUT mostly in Summer)" Personally, I think spring is the worst time to be dumped because yes it is the peak season for romance and you are excepting your partner to be all "lovey dovey and romantic" But when you get dumped on that day... well its kinda of self explanatory.

Winter is terrible, close to the holidays, and no one to share special moments and time with makes life pretty empty, I recall a few of those times and the lousy weather adds to the misery. Than spring comes you get up and out of the funk and think hey things will get better and they do...
