Which makes you a better person, working for an immoral corporation but at least you have a job and are a hard worker or refusing to work for a company that does not match your values and thus being unemployed?

Shawna 2012/08/03 06:22:19
I would rather be a hard worker even if I have to compromise my principles.
My principles are more important to me than taking just any job in order to have work.
You!

My friend I wish you had given me another choice. However, the shopkeepers(CEO) are going to do whatever they want to. Name another job where if you do a bad job you get a bonus or a lot of money to leave. The employees have nothing to do with what moron of a CEO decides.

Fair enough but there should always be limits to how far one goes to bring home the bacon. Would you take up contract killing for example in order to be able to afford a better education for your kids?

I am a industrious, capable & responsible person living in the US. Who does not and will not sacrifice the unity and welfare of the nation to the hand of a few "for profit corporations" or non profit entities by yielding my sense of morality and patriotic responsibilities in upholding the purpose of the United States Constitution. It was, is and will always be..."We The People".

I would rather die in defense of my Nation, its people and the United States Constitution than bend to the will of corporate rule and enslavement.

There are many "vocations" that do not require corporate participation outside federal, state and local licensing requirements.

Thank you for your detailed answer and for sharing my question. I have already attracted one idiot. There's a full moon tonight; I wonder what else I will get.

So just to clarify, you won't give your life to or for Walmart? ;-)

I can write with certainty that under the current regulatory and labor laws that benefit corporate profiteering and the employment practices and policies of Walmart, (http://employment.families.c... I would not.

I also can say that should Walmart's policies and practices change that parallel more to the common and general good & welfare of the nation that aligns to my sensibility in fairness. I might.

In the current political society that is demanding and legislating mandates of commercial participation and consumption from every United States citizen whether its health insurance, Electronic voting booths, or voter ID's (Materials and equipment) paid by the consumer or tax dollars to corporate enterprises under the guise of taxation or other. Then I think its only fair that a living wage be paid in the role as a "minimum wage" in order to be a law abiding citizen.

It is a vicious cycle, I know.

But is it fair that a corporation can profit by these mandates, pay a below living wage and then the government penalize a working citizen because they did not earn enough in order to comply with Federal law and mandates of commercial participatory requirements?

No, Walmarts has a long ways to go before I would even consider it a "below average corporate citizen".

Currency? Federal promissory notes. Nope, not gonna stop using it. Banks? Not all Banks are Private Corporations, North Dakota has an awesome State owned and operated bank... All states should be like that. I already own my land, no hole needed. Personal services and self employment do not require corporate participation they do however require skill and knowledge, and pending on the type of services, Federal, State and County licenses and permits, just as ringing up, counting change and bagging walmart purchases part time for $6.35 an hour does and licensing permits/codes Walmarts across the country have to. .

But if you are one of those who can not think for yourself and your mind tends to be all freshly washed of news entertainment from faux news... Then you cant survive without being lead on a corporate leash, I myself, can.

I'm not sure if this is an entirely black and white issue. It depends on a lot of factors, like how bad the company actually is, and how much do you need the money (i.e Do you have a family you need to support?)

It sure does and that's why I hoped people would explain their grey areas. For example there is that age old question asked of women, would you sell your body to feed your children? I would have to say yes, I would. I would do anything to feed my children though I am not sure I could murder in order to do so.

Get a job... work, learn... suck it up... and change that which needs changing...

You can't do that if you're sitting at home on your butt and patting yourself on the back because you have "principles." And, most likely drawing a fat welfare check...

I can picture that person going out and getting any number of other jobs... maybe working for Chick-fli-A? What the hell you talking about... I can picture that person working as a receptionist, that's right I spelled it correctly, in a dentist's office or at a law firm, or maybe even at a school... provided they have the job skills... What? Is someone forcing that person to work at an abortion clinic... Wow, evil capitalist, freaking American's... get out of here... and come back w/ a brain... btw, you asked for it... I have no mercy for disingenuous debate... I will lay you out girl

And previously I thought I liked you. Pardon me for making a typo-as instead of at reception. It's a very simple question and perhaps too philosophical for you. Get your head out of your ass and realise that part of a discussion is asking questions to clarify your understanding of each other.

LOL-well I'm often a smart ass so perhaps I can be friends with an ass hole but I'm not sure that politely worded insults are any better.
And I can accept that you think my question is insane, however you will notice that I have already collected a variety of responses and all I am interested in is what people think.

My point was anti-intellectual you say, and yet I think if I conducted a poll asking would you or would you not work at reception in an abortion clinic under any circumstances I would still get a variety of responses and people would debate endlessly which perspective was the "right" one. Without debate and discussion people don't have the opportunity to question their own beliefs and without questioning your own beliefs you don't grow.

What you got? I have a little dachshund... a long hair... he's still stubborn as can be at 4 years old... the little buggers are way hard to train.,. I love him though... off topic, I was reading one of the Christian/Religious questions that are such a downer here on SodaHead the other day, and this lady was asserting animals don't have a soul? What can anyone say to that? Ridiculous... I look forward to meeting so many wonderful animals in heaven someday... I was walking my dog earlier this evening, and we met two deer in the neighbors yard. They were like looking at us... I fell in love w/ them... maybe I'll see them in heaven... and God help me, I never say no to venison...night... I'm hitting the bed...

I'm sure the Dalai Lama is fabulous... think he would go to th' bar w/ me? Just kidding... Shawna... I must admit, you've taken me on, toe-to-toe... you thus have my big respect... I'm pretty certain we've managed to achieve nothing here, save the fact that I don't loathe you anymore... Your boyfriend must be a most fortunate fellow... I can say I think you're cool... You're out here, doing what you do and that is admirable... you're fighting for something, I'm not sure what... I love the fact you're out kicking ass though.

ROTFL- I am not as sweet and gentle as I look. Or rather, I am a two sided coin. Some people get the sweet and gentle version and some get their asses kicked. Generally I give what I get.

No, you don't exude happy vibes, though you do make me laugh so you produce happy vibes indirectly.
