Sugar is naturally absorbed and the spleen doesn't have any trouble keeping up with its ingestion, fructose and corn syrup are primary causes of Juvenile diabetes in the US which coincidentaly is the biggest producer and consumer of corn syrup because it is cheaper domestically than sugar.

Fructose IS sugar! Too much of ANYTHING is not good for you! period. I have spent the past 2 plus years losing 1/2 of myself and learning a lot of nutrition. one thing i have done that helps more than anything is learning moderation and portion with everything. I have not cut out anything, but have learned proper portion sizes and save a lot of things for only an ocasional treat, not daily or even weekly. Eating "Clean" is better for most of us.

Fructose is natural in fruit and vegetables. Now, high fructose corn syrup is a whole different story. The body doesn't know how to metabolize it so it stores it... as fat. Also, sugar does more harm to the body than cholesterol. Sugar immediately becomes an acid, which is causes an inflammatory response. It is a major player in aging. It causes more problems with heart attacks. Sugar, and simple carbs (which turn immediately to acid, too) are the prime culprits for causing gastric refiux.

Actually is neither. When it comes to how the human body metabolizes glucose, fructose, sucrose and the like, dietitians say the corn refiners have it mostly right: Sugar is sugar. It's a source of empty calories; one isn't more healthful than another, and Americans consume too much of it, period. The problem is high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is so much cheaper than sugar so it is included practically in a lot of food. Many of us who eat a lot of snack food would be eating a lot more HFCS making it more harmful than sugar because of the quantity consumed. All sugars are converted into fat in our liver, the more we eat, the fatter we get.

All sugars have similar potentially deleterious health effects, refined sugar is perhaps slightly worse than natural sugars as it loses some of the nutrients in the processing. But it's negligible, both can be equally deleterious especially in large quantities.

Now high fructose corn syrup. That's an alteration on nature and not on my list of things to eat.

Suger is worse because it's refined-Refined sugar is the type of sugar that you’re likely to add to your coffee or breakfast cereal by the teaspoonful or to cake and cookie recipes by the cupful. It provides sweetness but no nutrition. Fructose, by itself, is no better a nutritional bargain, but if you obtain it from whole-food sources, you’ll get vitamins, minerals and fiber along with your fructose.

Both are complex carbon based carbohydrates. How the Body treats them is almost identical. Some say refined sugar (white or brown) is worse than Fructose. Some say Fructose is worse.

BOTH ARE EQUALLY BAD!!! They interrupt the normal processing of foods and are consumed first rather than as a part of the breaking down of complex carbohydrates.

Sugar in an of itself is not harmful. It is only harmful in excess. Other sweeteners are either ingredients from other sweetening agents or they are artificial and possibly dangerous to your health. I'd rather have the real thing anytime.

"Almost half of tested samples of commercial high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contained mercury, which was also found in nearly a third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products where HFCS is the first- or second-highest labeled ingredient, according to two new U.S. studies." http://www.washingtonpost.com...

"A new study, published in the June issue of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, suggests that fructose intolerance is a common yet underrecognized cause of digestive problems in some people. And the more fructose they consume, say researchers, the more likely they are to have problems." http://www.webmd.com/digestiv...

I would say fructose is more dangerous than sugar.
    Here's why....................

Scientists have used imaging tests to show for the first time that fructose, a sugar that saturates the American diet, can trigger brain changes that may lead to overeating.
After drinking a fructose beverage, the brain doesn't register the feeling of being full as it does when simple glucose is consumed, so people want more because they don't feel full.

Not a good feeling to have...................... can cause obesity, and that can cause diabetes.
