On a plane sitting on the tarmac at Philly. Flight to Dallas was scheduled to take off at 8:47 am. We were third in the queue when the skies were shut down.
Here's a little side note: American Express wanted me to pay for the ticket even though the plane never took off. "You have to remit your unused ticket sir, or else we have to charge you." "They took my ticket when I boarded the flight," I responded. "Then you were on the flight and are responsible for either paying for the flight or returning the ticket." Took months and escalation to my company's travel agent for those bozos to stop insisting I must pay. I still have the boarding pass. And more insight into how we still don't have all the story.

I just pulled into a 7-11 in Hicksville, NY, when the dispatcher came on the cell and told me the 1st tower was hit. I got out and another driver stopped me and said, "I knew it, it was Osama bin Laden". Amazing, the fix was in.

my husband and i were asleep with the radio on. when we woke up we heard them talking about the first plane hit but didnt understand what was going on. we truned the tv on right when the second plane hit. i was fliping out cause my grandmother & her friend were planing on going to the towers that day. but luckly they changed their minds at the last min. and i was pergo and due at any moment. i was worry that i would go into labor and that my son would have to share his bday with this for the rest of his life.

Fifth grade. Ms. Pinchot's class in my seat, one of four tables connected to form a square. The announcements said to turn on our T.V.'s to show us the 'attack'.

I was a work when the first plane hit-The woman I shared an office with had just received a phone call and when she hung up-she told me then we went into the conference room and the television set was on. We all just stared at the tv-none of it seemed real. We left at noon at day and when we walked outside everyone was looking up at the sky. Frightening.

At my job for a large wireless carrier. After the planes hit, everything became frantic with zillions of calls from people trying to locate or track loved ones. This continued for several days after . It was heartbreaking.

I heard on the radio coming home from work about the jet hitting the first tower and got home in time to see to second jet hit the second tower.

I looked at my wife and said, "There's no way this is not terrorism."

Then a few minutes later we heard about the Pentagon being hit too.

In Zaragossa Spain, "Liberally" working for a living, (pun intended). I cut my elbow on a sharp piece of steel and bled all over the city getting to a medical facility, one which was SOOO much cheaper than ours! We had watched the happenings on the Internet and just wanted to get back to the hotel to watch CNN. Bad day all around.

By the way, I also remember where I was when JFK was assassinated. Again, "Liberally" at work, walking up a ramp to a different department at the "once proud" 70 year old company I worked for, a company that, several years later was victim of a Union busting NEW president and is now just a shadow of what it once was. Go Wisconsin!

Horror of Horrors! We were in an airplane flying from San Fran to Michigan. We had just gotten to eastern edge of NV and were advised by the pilot that there was a national emergency and we had to turn around and land as soon as possible. The whole event was surreal. To this day I can visualize the entire experience. Thanks to God we landed safely in Sacramento and were bussed the rest of the way back to San Fran.

Playing in my 2nd grade classroom. The principal got on the loudspeaker and asked the teachers to send any students whose parents may be flying that day. My dad was. the principal kept about 20 of us in the lunchroom until someone could come to get us. We didn't have a clue about what was happening. Not until later did we find out what happened so we weren't scared or anything at the time. Thank goodness none of my friends moms or dads were killed. They did the same thing at other schools and our town did loose about 50 people including a pilot of the second plane to hit the WTC and a town supervisor's son. We have a very nice memorial. I'd rather we didn't need one.

I was in 6th grade at the time, I never watched the news back then unless it was to check for a school closing and well it was september so obviously no chance of that, but I remember walking into my English class and the teacher had the news on. Thats all we did for the rest of that day was watch the news.

pulling into work, heard on news "a plane has crashed into the WTC" and I figured it was a small plane, poor visibility, pilot error, etc. Once in office, the dad of an associate called to say "turn on the TV". The rest we all know.

I was attending a local community college. It was less than 40 miles away from where Flight 93 crashed in a field in Somerset PA.
I don't think I have ever been so scared. I was at home when the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center but I hated to miss class so I went in. We were in the middle of my accounting class when they came in and told us to go home. That is when I found out about the plane that crashed in Somerset.
I came home and told my Mom that we were under attack. She didn't have the TV on so she hadn't heard the news.

At work at IBM at their main site in RTP, NC. It was all very strange, they put a news feed on IBM TV and closed all the gates to the site except the main one.
