So I am originally from Nebraska and curently live in Tucson. When I graduate I want to move to a big city but I don't have a clue how to pick which one!!! My area of study should let me live about anywhere. Weather isn't a huge factor, would love some great night life and entertainment, cost of living is somewhat of a factor. I don't want kids so schools aren't a factor. Crime is a little bit of a factor but not too high on the list. So here are the ones I"m considering, give me some feedback!!!

Try Dallas for awhile and then if you do not like it you can move somewhere else. Just don't choose L.A. or Chicago both have too many gangs and it's not safe. I have been to both cities.

I'm no fan of "The Big D" per se, but moving to Texas is the wisest decision any Amrican could make ... it's one of the last places that an ACTUAL AMERICAN can exist

What do you mean by "an actual american"?
  • teachaman Shae 2012/05/31 19:42:33 (edited)

an ACTUAL AMERICAN is one who believes whole-heartedly in the Constitution of the United States, in the limits it puts on governmental authority, and in the inherent, God-given liberty to which all people are entitled ... that liberty involves the freedom both to fail and to succeed - without overt interference from government ... an ACTUAL AMERICAN embraces the opportunity to pursue prosperity, while remaining commited to assuring the equal opportunity of others to do the same ... and an ACTUAL AMERICAN is required to have a commitment to defending oneself, one's family, and one's community from the depredations of those who refuse the responsibilities above or threaten those that take on these responsibilities ... race, creed, nationality, etc. are insignifigant to these commitments, and ACTUAL AMERICANS come in all possible catagories of people - but the defending of these differences is an essential role of all ACTUAL AMERICANS ... Texas is full of these sorts of patriotic people

None of the above, they are all ratholes, try Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg, Florida. They have everything you are looking for without being too big.

Being big is one of the things I'm looking for though.

These cities are also big, just not full of dilapidated properties as the ones on the list, and not as full of liberal Governments.

Every cit-ay has dilapidated areas, come on, now. You know this. You honestly think Chicago and NYC (include all five boroughs) are like that? That's pretty ignorant. Granted, it is not easy living with a bunch of scumbags, but you know what? Rather live here along a great lake than in hurricaneville.

Oh, lib governments, I shall not delve into LIbs across the USA that voted for the POS in office, there's a lib next door to you, I'd bet. They're all a bunch of commies~ case closed. But, if the chick wants to go to a big city, let her. Don't down other cities due to the ignorance of millions across the country that voted for OZero. Heck, have any of you ever realized that IT never spends time here and that Cali was ITs first city/state home/ ideals? Occidental? Onto NY, then to MA? Come on now.

NYC is definitely the most interesting. Boston is good too. But both are very expensive. And coming from Nebraska could be a bit of a culture shock. I grew up an hour from NYC and still to this day can't stand spending more than about 2 days there before I go crazy from the crowds. I need some open space, and not one that requires a subway ride to get to.

I lived in Pittsburgh for a while and really enjoyed it. Big city art, music and culture, lots of clubs and entertainment. Friendly neighborhoods. And good outdoor recreation not too far outside the city limits. And cost of living is very affordable.

And by the way, Las Vegas isn't a real city. It is an amusement park for adults.

There should have been an other option, Have you checked Into Nashville Tn.This city is good for a single career minded person, Not as big as other cities but there is always plenty to do.And the winters are fairly mild.

Thanks!! Only reason I didn't put an other option is because I'm pretty sure I have it at least narrowed down to one of these 8, just trying to narrow it down further from here!! But thanks, your input is still much appreciated!

That is why most people do everything in the general area where they live. Sorry you didn't care for it, but do agree it is very spread out. Wherever you do settle, I hope you are very happy, and I wish you all the luck in the world on starting this new chapter in your life.

Great airport and NO state income taxes!! So you can fly to visit all the other cities with all the money you save by NOT living in NY, or LA.

New York? Lovely place but forget it. Unless you are a millionaire with the ability to hide your money from Democrats, you'll be raped with taxes. Atlanta? Nice weather but no personality, really. L.A.? Kind of a phoney place with plenty of plastic surgery. Good luck keeping up with Mrs Jone's boob job. Miami? Too much gang violence. Boston? Fascinating historical place but very snobby. Dallas? Eh, could work... Las Vegas? Hmmm, ok. But Chicago? YEA BABY!

Google crime rates and cost of living, as well as average salary info for each.

I know Las Vegas has a very high standard of living, excellent schools, etc.
Most Las Vegas residents do not go into "Vegas".
