What can we say? We're gaga over groceries! While we shop for our favorite snacks at the store, we often wonder if our grocery store etiquette is the same as others. Do most people sneak in samples at the candy bins while deciding whether or not they're going to buy the goods? What do you do when the cashier gives you too much change? And is it normal to go grocery shopping three times a week? We're finally going to find out.

Take our 8-question "Gaga Over Groceries" survey to have your vote count in the stats -- and have fun shopping!

Mostly shop for produce at the Farmer's Market.......prices knocked down drastically toward closing time!!! And I'm alone so it means I can buy individual items, not having to buy entire packages of stuff.

If I may ask, what is the point of that? "Oh cool, I can buy $1,700 worth of food on credit! I'll just pay that right back when my next pay-check comes in, because I'm definitely expecting that to be above $1700!".

Luckily, Melbourne has one of the largest farmer's markets in the southern hemisphere.

If I can't find something I need at the farmer's market, then I'll go to my local supermarket.

I am embarrased to say that I shop at a national chain supermarket. The locally owned supermarkets in my area are dirty and just look unappealing. When buying my groceries that I'm going to eat, I think the appearance of the store simply underlies the condition of the food that I'm buying.

I do shop local whenever possible, I don't mind paying a little more when I know the money stays in my area, but this is something I need to work on.

Why are you embarrassed to say that you shop at a supermarket?
  • Cuthber... Papillon 2012/09/14 01:04:09
    Cuthbert Allsgood
Because it's a national chain rather than one of the local ones. I prefer to support local businessess whenever possible, but for the reasons outlined above I don't when buying my groceries.

But I go to other places where I can get cheaper produce and such. In Ohio we have a store called Marc's. They sell many things for much lower prices. I get much of my food there as well as closeout items of different sorts.

By mom and pop shops I mean my local Co-op. All locally-grown, organic, and awesome. Plus, as a member/owner I get a percentage of their profits back every year, which is proportional to the amount of money I spend there. That by it self more than makes up for the extra costs, not to mention the money I probably save in medical bills by eating healthy.
