When your parents get old and incapacitated, would you put them in a nursing home? Why or why not?

I haven't had to deal with this since both my parents are dead. If my mother had lived, she be completely incapacitated and would have required total care. I could not afford to take care of her myself, so it be very probable that she would have ended up in a nursing home. Would you? Why or why not?Nursing home

I really can NOT say ..
since my own parents passed away when I was barely adult ..
there's an elder cousin who still lives on his own ..
and I'm also living in my own home too ..
    (and I'm no 'spring chicken' .. )

MY preference .. is to live at home .. with a bit of help every so often for respite ..

They can go whereever they choose!!! But I say no to nursing homes!!! They seem like death traps, and I do not trust the personnel or faculty there, they seem to hate their jobs as well as the people who take up residence there!!!

If they got the money, sure thing. If I got the money, I'd pay for caretakers. I am only one who take care and it's too much for just me to do all of it, so I probably have to if my parents were total care.

    *sighs*

    Medical care is so expensive.....

Yeah, and dental insurance has a yearly limit too, at least my PPO does. Mine cost about $3000. Not chicken feed. My prescriptions medications that I buy cost over $200 a month, and that's with insurance...... We sure could use some kind of health care reform......

If my mom/dad chose to go to a nursing home I would make sure it was the best around, top quality care, fun stuff to do so they do not waste away in boredom, I don't care the cost, as long as I can afford it; my parents deserve the best!!!

The best is expensive and it's tough . Adult kids that torn between their own children and very infirm elderly parents have a hard time. If there are siblings to share with the duties, that's great. Alone, that's hard. What do you do? It's really sad.......

Requiring total care, I would have to. I couldn't do it alone, and I have my own life and household to worry about.
