Ever notice just how many times such a thing has happened around the world? And the Tribes of North America were not much different really. Civilizations had risen and fallen before blue eyes and red beards were seen. And it would have happened again in time.

Yes, I'm sure it would have. Just a the Great Auk would have become extinct sooner or later, or any human will die sooner or later. But wouldn't it be wonderful if genocides didn't happen, and people and civilizations came to their own ends as their development led them.

edit" BTW - the Vikings came here first. They integrated with the folks they found here in the New World. Mandan to this day find blue eyes and/or blondish hair cropping up here and there. The Lakotah has their Fox Clan......know for their fire red hair.

Same with the Lumbies of eastern NC. Some think they are product of walter Ralieghs "Lost Colony". Lot's of Scot/Irish mixed into South Eastern Tribes for sure. Granny was Catawba but Gramps was German and my eyes are blue. And my mothers family is always prematurely grey.

But I think, like horses or whatever, the more pure breed are more prone to more genetic problems.

In a manner of speaking, yes.

Seriously, I believe it to be eligant proof of common ancestery that all ethnic groups can inter breed. And I believe that when we do we deepen our genetic material rather than leaving it shallow. Many may not like that thought, but I believe it's to our childrens benefit.

My gawd, we agree on something. LOL But since I am Native American, I would call the ones who did that "fake Christians" because when our people read the Bible finally for ourselves, we found that the Jesus of the New Testament's spiritual way of love was very much like our way of respecting all life. Once a Lakota elder (I am Cherokee) said that, "This Jesus would have made a good Lakota. Too bad they don't follow His way." LOL

But it was not just one religious group. "Christians" were not just one group, even back then. And there were likely Jews and Muslims involved in lesser numbers. And it was not the majority of any group that betrayed and massacred the natives (which natives also were known to massacre, scalp, etc., the White Man).

Actually, scalping was a practice that originated with German mercenaries. They got paid by the kill, and so would bring back scalps to get a count and a paycheck. Natives adopted this practice from them over time.

Thank you for the information. It sounds as though I was incorrect in what I had learned previously. From what I am reading now, delving past the site you linked, is that scalping may have been practiced as early as 400 B.C.

From there it has been used all over the world, by Europeans, pre-Colombian Americans, and many other cultures.
