When kids are out in public with thier parents, restaurants ,movies, gatherings, etc. and they are upset and crying and causing a disturbance, what should be done?

I think the parents or guardian should have enough piece of mind to take the child out of the restaurant, movies, gathering untill; he/she calms down enough to bring them back in.

I'd suggest removing the child to somewhere more private to deal with their behavior. Then i would have the child sit on my lap and explain to them that they are going to sit with mom until they settle down and once they settle down they can go back into their own seat in the restaurant. Let them finish their behavior sitting in your lap, they'll quickly learn that it's better to sit on their own then to sit in mom's lap under her control. Believe me, kids would rather have any kind of movement then have the limitations of parents lap. I'd suggest starting this in their younger years as soon as their behavior becomes disruptive in the public domain.

    Child discipline should be private.

Children. Of the 21st Century, All a at the CLICK. From as young as 3,4,are out of all above ways, to calm them. Reason parents,Grand, all. In my childhood a plain stair from mom/dad would be enough to calm us. We unable to sit in front of elders, leave aside causing disturbances, will a solution solve it all !

I remember this one time i was trying to watch a movie on a plane and only got to see half of it because there was a little boy seated right in front of the screen, needless to say the other half of the movie was all him. he was like a mole in the "Whack-A-Mole" game. I should have found his parents and whacked them! i was so annoyed.

Take the child out and talk to them to find out what they are so upset about. Then after calming them down and reassuring them that everything will be alright take them back into the establishment.

I think they should bring the child outside.I sick of paying for a meal in a restaurant and
have some screaming kid there. If the parents don't bring the kid out.The management should ask them to leave.

    I agree.
If the kid is that upset, it's disrupting the peace of everyone else, plus it draws negative attention towards the parents, I'm sure a screaming child annoys everyone lol.
removing the problem until it's dealt with is the best choice I'd say

I totally agree. No child should be allowed to make a disturbance in any establishment and disturb others. It should be shown that the behavior is unacceptable and taken out promptly.

I did too. But it is amazing the number of people who fail to think it is an issue at all.

I know. And I see it in the mall on a regular basis. tantrums, screaming and just plain monster. Mothers dragging ones who refuse to walk( 4 or 5 yr old).

I simply would refuse to take the little urchins out of the house until they were touch to be civilized, I saw on little girl kick her mother so hard that she nearly fell over, but not one word of discipline.

I am so glad my daughter it no longer in school. I would be horrified if she had to associate with what I have seen lately.
