A Swedish woman was allowed to abort her unborn child after deciding that she was discontent with its gender. It was her second time aborting a child after finding that its gender was not to her liking.

Currently, Sweden doesn't have any laws restricting people from aborting their children if they are unhappy with the child's gender, but the United States is much stricter. Still, much controversy surrounds the legality and legitimacy of aborting a fetus.

So, if it is ever acceptable, when is abortion OK?

Abortion i acceptable when there is a rape involved, there are serious health risks to the mother or the child, or if the mother is under 14, BUT! when it comes to age i belive that adoption is the better way togo if possible.if you dont have these issues then you should have accept that you layed down knowing what could happen, and now its time to put you life aside or give up for adoption which is hard but actully a beautiful thing to give someone the greatest gift, and be able to choose the family and life for you child.

GREAT QUESTION! My opinion is:

1- Mother's life is in danger if child goes to term.

2-Gross Birth defect or disease that would not survive anyway.

That's about it. If the child will be retarded, it still deserves it's shot. If it's a case of rape, there are many people willing to adopt. Who go to other countries to adopt because they can't find children here.

The unborn should have civil rights from conception.

u r right about the top 2 but i think if a women has been raped it should be her choice because some women r happy to have the child adopted but others wouldnt cope with being pregnant and the constant reminder of what happened for 9 months and tey will always now that there is a child out there who could come looking for them when they get older askin y she gave it up. rape victims should have the choice as well!!!!!!!!

the mother doesn't want to have the child. It should ALWAYS be the mother's choice. She has to carry it, birth it, AND raise it. The government should NEVER have anything to say about that unless it carries it FOR her, births it FOR her and RAISES it FOR her.

Those people who spout religion don't do any of that for her either. It should always be between that woman, her doctor, and if she has any kind of religious views, with her own clergy (if she so desires).

It never ceases to amaze me how the same people who are against abortion are for war, torture and the death penalty. However, I don't know why that hypocrisy still amazes me. It's incredibly common these days. The higer the level of intolerance for choice, they higher the level of hypocrisy.

When a girl is raped.. and soon finds out she is pregnant... the mother had nothing to do with it.. i know that a child isnt a bad thing in a persons life but they are very hard work.. and you have to have money to raise them in a stable home or anything.. I think it is better for a kid to come into the world knowing 2 parents or 2 people were going to be there for them.. willing to love and except them... that just isnt the same situation as rape is.

I tend to find these situations tricky. But I will go with the statistics for now. The number of women who get pregnant and choose to abort due to rap are a fraction of a percent...if you add health of the mothers and incest you will get under 2% (less than 30,000 women). One of the reasons this number is so low, is because of a woman's cycle but even statistically the number of rapes resulting in pregnancy don't add up b/c her body was put in a stressful situation. You can still get pregnant from being raped (especially date-rape) but your chances are significantly lowered b/c the body shuts down reproduction in times of great stress.

Just thought I would share.

I personally think that is stupid for using abortion for gender selection. I wouldn't have an abortion, but I get to decide for myself and think other women should also. I feel most women would reserve abortion for something other than gender selection. But if not, it's still her body (and her conscience) and not for us to decide.

From your friends experience (just curious), did she find the baby helped her with healing. i am sure the baby can be hurtful for some people...but I also think they should be able to help heal the mother as well.

In addition I think an abortion can also be a traumatic process, especially on someone who has been raped.

Yes it did help. She always felt that it was her baby too,and how could she hurt it?
Her daughter is such a beautiful,sweet girl. They are so close. I do know some women could not do this though. too much pain.

I would think it would be difficult for many women to have an abortion after being raped...just add to the hurt..especially if they are not sure about it and forced into it (there are several sad stories of teenagers whom are raped and didn't get enough time to really consider their choices...sad)

I also think the best balance here is to carry the child to term and give it up for adoption...b/c then you aren't adding any more trauma (obviously there will be some no matter what) and then you don't have a reminder of your rapist...this obviously varies from person to person.

accetable when the life of the mother is at stake (as in toxemia) especially if she has a family of children at home, acceptable in cases of incest, especially when the pregnant child is quite young, acceptable when (and this is an iffy one) the doctors determine that the fetus has terrible genetic defects and will live a tortchorous life and probably a couple others I can't think of right now.In few cases, I believe even third trimester abortions are acceptable, but not tossed out for anyone who wants one. Why in the hell would you go that far with a pregnancy and then abort. I have had children and I can imagine the "discomfort" (understated) would be similar in each case. Never underestimate the stupidity of people.

You are mistaken about the US having stricter rules for abortion. They don't ask you why you're having an abortion before you do it. And there is no law that says what is an acceptable reason, and what isn't.
