When did Sin Begin?

The Fall of Man

but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’" The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,

"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

But the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?" Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

The man said, "The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."

Then the Lord God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?"

So the Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this,

And I will put enmity

and you will eat dust

and all the wild animals!

and between your offspring

your head,b To the woman he said,

and he will rule over you."

with pain you will give birth to children.

It will produce thorns and thistles for you,

through painful toil you will eat of it

By the sweat of your brow

because she would become the mother of all the living. dAdam

for dust you are

until you return to the ground,

After he drove the man out, he placed on the east sideSo the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. And the Lord God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

The Sin Offering

that is, all the rest of the bull—he must take outside the camp to a place ceremonially clean, where the ashes are thrown, and burn it in a wood fire on the ash heap. But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, as well as the head and legs, the inner parts and offal— Then the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering. bjust as the fat is removed from the oxboth kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the covering of the liver, which he will remove with the kidneys— He shall remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering—the fat that covers the inner parts or is connected to them, The priest shall then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the Lord in the Tent of Meeting. The rest of the bull’s blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. He is to dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle some of it seven times before the Lord, in front of the curtain of the sanctuary. Then the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and carry it into the Tent of Meeting. He is to present the bull at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the Lord. He is to lay his hand on its head and slaughter it before the Lord. "‘If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the Lord a young bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has committed.

Then he shall take the bull outside the camp and burn it as he burned the first bull. This is the sin offering for the community. and do with this bull just as he did with the bull for the sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for them, and they will be forgiven. He shall remove all the fat from it and burn it on the altar, He is to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the Tent of Meeting. The rest of the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. He shall dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle it before the Lord seven times in front of the curtain. Then the anointed priest is to take some of the bull’s blood into the Tent of Meeting. The elders of the community are to lay their hands on the bull’s head before the Lord, and the bull shall be slaughtered before the Lord. When they become aware of the sin they committed, the assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering and present it before the Tent of Meeting. "‘If the whole Israelite community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, even though the community is unaware of the matter, they are guilty.

He shall burn all the fat on the altar as he burned the fat of the fellowship offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for the man’s sin, and he will be forgiven. Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. He is to lay his hand on the goat’s head and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before the Lord. It is a sin offering. When he is made aware of the sin he committed, he must bring as his offering a male goat without defect. "‘When a leader sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the commands of the Lord his God, he is guilty.

He shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar as an aroma pleasing to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven. Then the priest is to take some of the blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering. When he is made aware of the sin he committed, he must bring as his offering for the sin he committed a female goat without defect. "‘If a member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, he is guilty.

He shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the lamb of the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar on top of the offerings made to the Lord by fire. In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven. Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. He is to lay his hand on its head and slaughter it for a sin offering at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered. "‘If he brings a lamb as his sin offering, he is to bring a female without defect.

Jesus, The Final Sacrifice

Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All

Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:

6

but a body you prepared for me;

Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—

a And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made).

because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:

"This is the covenant I will make with them

b

I will put my laws in their hearts,

Then he adds:

I will remember no more."

And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.

Matthew 12:31

And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men,

But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin." I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them.

Where does your heart and soul decide? Where will you be for eternal life???

You!

Sin began with the advent of religion.

Not being a complete jerk to others began when mankind started to realize that being jerks to one another resulted in bad times all around. This began with oral traditions between members of the same tribe, eventually expanding to general education for the masses on what's good for society based on trial and error over many centuries, rather than edicts from on high, considering what we consider to be "Good" now is not the same as what was good a century ago, or even in the bronze age when most of the modern day religions got their starts.

Being good doesn't depend on listening to an invisible friend tell you what to do and obeying like a mindless robot. It depends on learning what is and is not socially acceptable, and what does and does not benefit everyone as well as just yourself. This is re-enforced by society at large, and there are plenty of examples of this today. There are many "men of god" who will fleece their flocks and run with the money, donating nothing to charities, helping nobody but themselves and generally acting like self interested dicks while telling everyone that God Said It's Okay, while others, seeing that others less fortunate than they suffer, act to alleviate that suffering without the need of divine inte...

There are many "men of god" who will fleece their flocks and run with the money, donating nothing to charities, helping nobody but themselves and generally acting like self interested dicks while telling everyone that God Said It's Okay, while others, seeing that others less fortunate than they suffer, act to alleviate that suffering without the need of divine intercession on their behalf. Millions donated to and offered actual physical labor to help earthquake victims. Did they do this because an invisible friend told them to or he'd kill them and everyone they love? No, they did this because they had empathy for the suffering of others and decided of their own free will to help.
Knowledge of society's laws, empathy for the suffering of others, and life experience teach right from wrong.
A deity telling you "Do this or I'll murder you and then torture your soul for eternity" doesn't sound like someone who's got the moral high ground to me.

I prefer to look at it like this. If I do bad things, bad things will happen to me in return. If I do good things, good things will happen to me in return. Do I need a god to tell me this? Not really. Do I need a pat on the head for doing the right thing from an invisible friend? No, not really. Do I need fear of eternal torture to keep me in line? No, not really.

So... does the fact that I don't need these things make me morally bankrupt? No, not really. I chose to serve my country because I felt a strong call to defend those who could not defend themselves. I felt empathy for their plight and served proudly for 11 years until I could no longer continue to serve. Did I do this because God Told Me To? Nope, I made my own decision to do this, at a very early age as a matter of fact, and stuck with it well into my adult life.

I don't mind if people believe in deities, I don't even care which one or ones they decide to believe in. If that brings you comfort and succor, then by all means, do so. If it actually makes you a better person because you believe, then by all means, do so.

However, if you use your religion as a "Do whatever I feel like" excuse, then we will be having a few issues.

Ok I guess we should all go out and get drunk because that is what society is doing and getting laid or stoned. We should be like every one else Huh? If a man gose out and dose wrong that is his choice to do so that just means he has took the evil road it is all about choice .I tell yea what society is a mess right now so I do not belive I would use it for a reason.God gose deeper than this earth this earth alone is evil and every thing in it God is not of this world and his true followers can see the wrong in it so they do not do it.But every one is tested and the fact is we fail allot but that is the reason Jesus came and threw him we shall be with him.But the Lord knows when a person really is sorry or is just saying so.Take care.

Pagan here.... don't believe in "sin".

Anyhow, why should a whole PLANETFULL of people HAVE to pay the price just because some yahoo (god) was too dense to realize that he never should have put his precious "tree" there in the first place?

Well maybe he should have just should have struck them down will they stood after them disobeying him.No instead he test them and they failed so there life was not what it could have been due to the choice they made.Just like the choices you make there are consequences.SIN a big word a big deal if you do not like the fire of hell.Jesus saved his people that loved him so we could be with him.But any way I will not argue with you Hun.I wish you all the luck in the world.God loves you rather you love him or not.But that love will not save you from punishment if you defile God.

Sin entered the world through man's disobedience to God's command to him, woman was cursed for disobeying her husband. Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the Law of God, and at that time, the only Law was the one telling Adam not to eat of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden.

Sin began when man (woman) first realized he (she) had a conscience.

Shakespeare said it best: ". . . conscience doth make cowards of us all and thus the native hue of resolution is sicklied oer by the pale cast of thought." Hamlet
