When Did Everyone Lose Their Sense of Humour?

Xerxes,Phantom of PHAET 2012/07/07 20:14:27
A group of us re-watched two outstanding films "Blazing Saddles" & "Freebie and the Bean", both films are hilarious. A friend pointed out that because of PC these films could not be made today. Not that I want them re-made, it did make me think that PC is way out of hand, i.e. calling an illegal alien an undocumented worker does change anything still illegal. When did people become so thin skinned?
You!

That just seems to be when people became very uptight and PC. Yuppies took over and it wasn't the same as the 60's or 70's.

Never seen "freebie and bean" but I do agree people have become a little thin skinned...and it didn't happen overnight.

The same PC attitude could be directed toward "Laugh-In." The show was outrageously funny but it could never come back today because of its blatant satire.

It happened sometime around the eighties--probably in concert with the peak of 'just say no/the war on drugs.' While all the former hippies were busy making money as yuppies, everybody turned anal as hell. I *share* your grief at the loss of Americans' ability to laugh at themselves.

Oh HELL no! You're nowhere CLOSE to alone on that one. Anyone who's experienced more than a quarter of a century on this planet is aware of the MARKED difference.

Just try remaking All In The Family.
