Be honest and straight forward. Say it isn't working for you and briefly state why. Don't be mean, don't lose your temper, wish them well, then leave. Don't debate it, don't linger.

If the other person cries or gets mad, walk away.

And be truthful--maybe not the whole truth, but don't lie. Also, break it off before you go looking for someone new.

Don't get angry, just state that the relationship isn't working and she knows it too. Don't get dramatic and defensive and get into an argument over who's fault it is...

so you should do it the most painful way you can think of. either out in public with all their friends and tell them every thing they did wrong! Or over face book on thier wall telling them everything they did wrong.

Ok sarcasm aside I would do it in private one on one.

At least do it in person, and it's going to hurt. Just deal with it. But better for you both to be able to move on.

Yes, they're gonna be hurt either way, but don't be a complete dick and break up over the phone, iPod, computer, etc. Get some balls, have some respect and say it to their face.

Tell them it's just not working out for you anymore. No need to go into details, because that gives them time to talk you out of it.

Just be honest and tactful. They are gonna be hurt, but it makes you a better person to handle it that way, and eventually they will get over it.

Be man enough to end the relationship face to face. Then of coarse if she has left that is another matter.

...and without terminating the friendship aspect of the relationship. The other person may well opt to do that for you. Don't reject others but be willing to accept rejection.

Depends on the culture - that won't fly with most Americans Ziad. It would appear to be insensitive and cowardly. Other cultures it is the right thing to do.

If they are weird & getting stalky don't do it in person. But no matter what if they won't take no for an answer try, "I am sorry but I am responsible for myself & this relationship is not good for me."

But just have a decent talk with the person, and let them know in a nice way that things are not working for you, and you feel it's best that you leave. Even though the other party is going to be hurting for a while, you may be doing them a favor and yourself in the longrun depending on the circumstances. Be honest about it and don't try skirting around issues. Tact and diplomacy and some sympathy have to be put into play here.
