I believe it's your timing belt tensioner on it's way out. Possibly both the belt and the tensioner needs to be replaced. When the belt is slack, it slaps against the timing belt cover.The timing belt also runs the water pump, it may be that the bearing is failing or that the timing belt tensioner or idle pullies are failing.
To find the exact location of the rattling noise, try using a long screw driver with the handle to your ear and touching engine areas with the tip. But be sure not to have anything hanging off your neck that may get snagged. ...That would be bad.

Take a long tube and put it in your ear and the other side in the car where you may think the noise comes from, you can be able to indentify where the noise is coming from...
do you know if the fan is bend? it maybe touching some metal, OMG could be so many things

I also noticed that your bendix on the starter did not engage, or disengage properly. IF the driving cog is not completely disengaging, you could be getting a noise from that. OR this could be a separate problem you should plan on addressing.
