I have a cat; it catches all the mice

Mum always wants to take them outside, which I find pointless since it will just come right back in. Dad fastidiously sets mousetraps, which are pretty successful. I appreciate that we don't want them in the house but I used to have pet mice so it makes me sad to see them dead.

Killing mice is cruel. Use this humane mouse trap instead:

My heart says one thing logic says another. We had mice one time. Two things needed to be done. One seal up the ways they got in, and two quickly get the others in the house before all the food for people, and pets became their food. Sticky traps to catch the ones in side. I knew of one personae who caught them alive, and took them a long way away to let them go, but I don't know how effective that is. The one thing people don't realize is that the non human animals have a soul in them that will never die. That is why Jesus only had to lay his life down for us. It will not always be this way.

I don't believe it should be killed because of the species it was born as.

Haha, we have two dogs and I can't believe how supremely disinterested they are in mice. If I was a dog, I'd at least bark at it or something.

I have seven cats. Mice, moles, voles, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, snakes and any other small creatures tend to give our house a wide berth.

We tried to do that once when I was a kid. Wild mice just die of fright if you try to keep them in a container of any kind.

I haven't had a mouse in this house, but we had a shrew in the basement.
They aren't the same as a pet mouse you buy at the pet store. They carry germs and disease. Not to mention, unlike your mouse in the cage, they poop all over your house, even where you store your food.

In fairness to the cats, they aren't allowed in the basement.
The cat did just catch a bat that got in the house the other night. It was a cool night and I think I brought it in on some equipment that was on my porch. Kitty snatched that thing right out of the air. :)

If my dog doesn't get it I have traps that will catch without killing then I'll just take it away from the house far enough that it won't be near my place and let it out they've never come back and since I got one of those sensors that keep them away they've stopped showing up.

Mice don't hurt anything or anybody. They are very cute and are also proof that one has no rats. They are also very tamable but people are turned off...probably by their tail.

On the subway platform at West 4th st. in NYC I used to see one rat that was probably bigger than most teacup dogs. Typically I'd be there around 4am. He'd hang out on one of the steps and I would bring stuff to feed him. HA! We developed a friendship. They are highly intelligent.

As far as mice go, unless you have an actual infestation, 2 or 3 are fine and will hurt nothing. They'll probably become de facto pets.

Um, we've killed about 8 so far and there are at least a few more. And wild mice can't become pets, exactly. If you try to put them in a cage or something, they'll die of fright. I don't really want them to have the run of the house and nibble our food :/

I'm on your mother's side here. The humane mouse traps aren't expensive, and it takes little effort to catch and release them in an area away from houses.

I suppose, she just puts them in the backyard which is not effective, but I guess we could walk down the street to the park....

I suppose, I would try to find out where they were coming in, if mice getting into to the house was a problem. If I couldn't, and mice were everywhere, I would be sad if I couldn't think of a solution other than killing them.
I have used traps that don't hurt them, the few times I've had a mouse in the house. I released the mice in a wild area, away from houses.
