It depends on whether the problem is spinal or muscular and on whether or not you do strength building crunches and other exercises for your abdominal muscles. If it's a compressed spinal disk, stay off of your feet for a day or two. If muscular, get a massage.
I have very painful lower back problems. Often this can be spine degeneration, or not having a straight spine. Chiropractors give some temporary relief; professional back massages are fantastic. The product "Aleve" can give some back pain relief. When lifting heavy objects bend your knees; don't put the weight on your back.
