What will you give up for Lent?
Do you observe Lent? If yes, what will you give up for Lent?

Lent is observed differently between Christian denominations:

"Lent is the Christian observance of the liturgical year from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday.
The traditional purpose of Lent is the penitential preparation of the believer—through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, and self-denial. Its institutional purpose is heightened in the annual commemoration of Holy Week, marking the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events of the Passion of Christ on Good Friday, which then culminates in the celebration on Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ."

I am not catholic although I do lean the faith and am a Christian.

I would encourage all catholics to give up Obama for the next year.

There is no heart behind Lent. It is a HO, Hum day to people. What will you give up this year hon? Keep asking me that and it will be you. Prayer is a state of mind being connected to the spirit to be forgiving thinking of others asking for wisdom. The Church has prayer being treated like a light switch. lent is thought of as being a work. What do we learn about Jesus? As much as you learn in the Quran that has his name pasted into the pages.

I have never have given up anything during lent even though I am Catholic. But then I have never prayed to Mary or any other Saint. I take my prayers right to the Father in Jesus Name.

No, I do not observe Lent. I have many friends who do, though.

NOTHING. CHRIST GAVE UP EVERYTHING; SOMETHING, IT WON'T ADD TO IT OR MAKE ME HOLIER. MY CHURCH USED TO GIVE EACH FAMILY A LITTLE BOX FOR THE FAMILY TO PUT LOOSE CHANGE IN, AND TURN IT IN ON PALM SUNDAY~I LIKED DOING THAT~

It's not about giving up, necessarily. It's more about repentance and doing things to make yourself a better person. I prefer to try to do things to make myself a better person and with luck, it won't just be for lent, but become permanent.

I give more to others and try to become a better person during the 40 days in many ways. Something that will remain with me from this time on not be forgotten like things or stuff.

I haven't observed this practice during Lent even though I am a Christian. I usually fell off the wagon when I did attempt it, so I just stopped. Fasting for a shorter period of time is more doable.

In that Lent is a Christian adaption of a pagan practice meant to replace the time of interspection before Yom Kippur for those who follow Biblical practices, I long ago gave up pagan religion for "Lent".
