Although from what I've seen we do have a couple of bears and mountain lions in the area. But they don't usually come up to the main house. Coyotes on the other hand have raided the chicken yard many times. Of course they don't stick around long once the dogs know they are there.

my mother back when she was in college was helping out with the feeding of a mountain loin and everybody thought the lion had been removed from the enclosure so mom went in to put food in there and the lion pounced down on her from a branch and to this day my mother has back problems

we have Coyotes in this area, but they can't get into my back yard. I am much more afraid of cottonmouth.

A bear I guess. They are really big and when they stand up on their hind legs... gigantic! Forget it, I'd be really panic stricken if I saw a bear. (Which would be really freaky anyway since I live in New York City). Bears. I can only love them from afar. If it were a cougar I'd be tempted to think of it as a really big kitty and want to take it home! ;)

My real answer is "none", but I'm most cautious about rattlesnakes. I've a pack of 4 coyotes within a hundred yards of my home.

Had one in our backyard and it was up in our tree. Where i live, i've seen coyotes and wolves as well, but never a bear unfortunately.

Pretty short list! What _most_ people should fear in their yards are rattlesnakes.

I agree with you on that I have seen more rattlesnakes out at my parents ranch than I've ever seen bears coyotes or wolves

I've seen more rattlesnake activity from the canyon behind my house this year than in all the years I've lived here. Snake season doesn't usually end 'til mid-October... my dogs hate me 'cause I won't let them run into the canyon to chase squirrels.

one of my dogs got bit a couple weeks ago so now my mother has put the family on the buddy system it would work better if all of us were allowed to take guns when we go out but since my brother and I are under the age of 18 mom won't allow us to take the guns with us though we have at least 4 working guns and there's 4 people in my family the dog is fine thank God

My vet told me dogs have a better chance than humans of surviving snake venom. I don't want any on them to be that sick though. Glad your dog is okay, it would be horrible to lose our dogs to a @&!%$ rattlesnake.

None of these frighten me. Where is your none option
What frightens me - that I worry about seeing in my yard - is wild hogs.

around my place the coyotes a smarter you put your hand on the door knob to open the door and bam their gone whats really scary is when there's a rabid coyote and you can't tell if it's a coyote or a dog so you whistle and it comes walking up then you see definitely a coyote and your first thought then is "oh crap get the gun" that happened to my mom about a year ago
